A German court recently found Oskar Groening, the "Book-keeper of Auschwitz" guilty of aiding mass murder. They've given him 4 years in prison.

What does everyone think about this? Personally, while I don't object to punishing Nazis by any means, I think this case is a little unnecessary. In my opinion putting a 94 year-old person on trial for a crime committed over half a century ago seems like a waste of time and resources.

What he did was bad, but this seems more like the government version of a publicity stunt... he's 94, he's not gonna be mass-murdering any more ethnic groups.

I think some are missing the point.. It's a stunt to show the world Germany don't encourage Nazis in any shape or form and want to give this message to the world.. WW2 is an event which hurts German pride..

actually, WW2 is about the only impressive thing Germany has accomplished in the last hundred years or so. Sure they have a decent economy, but Germany video games suck.

(oh btw- I'm saying the Germany in ww2 was impressive in terms of leadership and planning, not in the sense that killing Jews/Gypsies is good. I dont support Genocide)

I agree fully. Germany has put the distance of Pluto to the Sun between their country and Nazism. It's getting redundant at this point. "Have we mentioned we aren't Nazis today?"

Also, from what I read of this guy he's fully admitted his involvement all along and never tried to hide it in any way. He's spent his whole life in guilt trying to redeem himself and it's only now they decided to judge him.

My grandpa lived to 94... and he was a bastard (who probably should have gone to jail). But I can tell you, when it came time for him to meet god, he paid for his deeds alright... (I didn't kill him, but you could see the fear in his eyes and everything)

I think it's odd to blame this guy for something Germany did, I agree with you guys, he's a scapegoat.

I often don't blame individual Germans, because they had to do what they were told, or they themselves would be shot, they were forced against their will, essentially. It was Germany at a whole that was at fault, the government and it's propaganda. A lot of people in Berlin didn't even realise a war was going on until we turned up at their door.

Did they not see the soldiers parading and Hitler giving speeches about war? Did they not notice bombs dropping from the sky?
