There's no limit of complaints regarding the off-topic forum. Many agree that it's troll filled, riddled with useless threads, and that it needs some type of massive overhaul to be worthy.

However, is it really that bad? The majority of topics here usually end up in some form of meaningful discussion. If nothing else everybody gets a laugh at something stupid. There are a few trolls running around, but they're blatantly obvious and could be ignored if everyone put their minds to it.

There's also some who complain about politics or the off-topic forum somehow being too off-topic. Which strikes me as odd. This forum has it's name for a reason. Warlight may be a risk game but the off-topic isn't even about Warlight, so what's wrong with discussing politics here? It's fine as long as it's done in a productive manner. I know I'm not the only one who actually enjoys talking about political stuff as long as it doesn't turn into a flame war.

Restating the main question: Is the off-topic forum really THAT bad?

I was simply trying to start a discussion where everyone could get their complaints about the off-topic forum vented in one place, instead of seeing people rant about the current state of things on several other topics.

I don't care if OT is full of trash. The bigger issue is not being able to control what forums you see on the dashboard. Then people who don't care about OT could simply ignore it. Same goes for clan forums (I am sure people don't want to see that either).

There is that add on that someone posted, but that slows down general browsing. I would like to see a warlight solution, not a browser solution.

If that was put in place, people wouldn't care if OT was full of junk.



That being said, there is OT, and then there is spam. I'm tire of rape, racist, religion threads on there. It is one thing to do your hurt/heal and other games on there. It is another for people to post crap that is only inflammatory. There are definitely OT topics that should not be posted.

Off-Topic forum already doesn't show up on the dashboard. At-least it never has for me. While I see your point, I think it's fair to note that ignoring certain things can go a long way as well. If someone knows something is going to offend them by the title, and then click on it anyways, then it's partly their fault for reading something they knew in advance they wouldn't like.

I agree that any thread made only to troll and start a flame war should be avoided. However, I don't think controversial topics should be off limits if the person bringing it up is trying to have a meaningful discussion and isn't trolling/flaming. People will argue over literally anything. If we start banning any subject that someone gets mad over soon we'll have nothing to talk about and the off-topic forum will just be 50 different heal/hurt games.

You are missing the point on clutter. If I click "All Forums" then I see 3/4 of the first page having this OT stuff. While the clan league thread is on page 4 (last posted in 3 days ago). There are other threads like increasing the ladder graph dimensions on page 4 as well.

Everyone has their own threads they want/do not want to see, so while I would rather see those two threads on the first page, others would not care.

My point is you cannot simply ignore the stuff you don't like, because there is SOOO much of it that everything you might deem important is buried. Nobody wants to sift through pages of threads, so then you end up with repeat posting (people asking something that was answered in another thread, that is now 5 pages deep). That just creates additional clutter because we have no mod tools to deal with it (like combining threads.

So while I understand OT is OT, and can be used at will...people need to realize what throwing all that stuff out there does to the forums in general. There IS a reason why people think the forums are junk right now.

I've posted several ideas on how to fix it, but Fizzer/Mercer don't really have much priority on the forums (they have game stuff to work on instead). If they could somehow allow someone like me to help with a forum overhaul...I would. But I am not sure they can/will. I can tell you what happened on another game site I am on. People got mad at devs for not giving the forums attention. they started their own forum site, everyone went there, and the devs got no feedback on their game site at all. So they ended up making the changes once their hands were forced. I don't want that to happen here, but these forums are pretty much useless right now.

I agree with Chris. I'd feel like shit if threads i liked that were pretty active were just buried to page 5 because of the spam.

Fizzer should just make it where you can block certain forums. You get all the stuff you want and none you don't want.

He should... but he says its "all about the first time experience" and stuff like that. So is sex, but that doesn't need fixing and Warlight does.

I don't understand why people are complaining. Couldn't you just not click on the thread that you don't want to see?

That's ridiculous. You should be able to toggle what you want and what you don't want. What happens if somebody doesn't like their first experience in the OT? Or any of the other forums. There should definitely be a little more options as far as account management goes.

Alternatively, it'd be nice if mods could sticky threads. I'd like to see things like Clan League 7 on the top of the forums every day.
