cut your territories, to create the free space and maybe underlay the free space with a polygon to adjust the colour later on and finally decrease the size of your bonus box. should be very easy. =)
Yeah, you can cut the territory. You could also just copy the bonus link, offset it and just leave it as a shape (like you would for a territory connection line). Either way works.

thats what i tried to do (as shown in pic1) and it didnt translate over to the wl map maker.
What is not saved to the correct type, and what is the correct type? I dont know what object to path does, but i highlighted my bonus border box and clicked on object to path and it didnt make anything happen =/ i am not good with inkscape.
hmm, they won't show until you assign them in the bonus link box though on WL. you did that, right?
Number is correct though (been a while since I have worked on my maps). It will be yellow, and fill in with the color when you assign that. But it won't show up AT ALL until you name it to match the svg object name (spaces instead of underscore of course).
I am wondering if you had even assigned them yet in WL. If not, they shouldn't show. Since they do show, I am guessing you have the name format wrong (should be BonusLink_Austria or whatever)
That's what I thought Chris, but the other thing about that - if you don't input the Bonuslink, it will not appear above a Territory_xxx in Warlight. So you wouldn't even be able to see it. I really am confused about this one.
Unless, the territories are are cut out around the bonus boxes, so that there is no overlap. It's hard to tell for the pics if that's the case.
