1v1 auto-games aren't really worth dragging it out. No one sane cares about winning % beyond 50%, and the points gained from a RT 1v1 auto-game are not worth the stress. I'd just surrender and move on. :)

Now, if it were a ladder match, coin game, maybe a tournament fight etc... go for the throat.

Since you deleted it, I have no idea what you are talking about.
In terms of people delaying their turns, usually it is a spite tactic if they wait until last second every turn.
I found that out once when I made fun of some dude I was beating at a game of Scrabble.
It turned into a very painful game, because he really got me back by doing the same thing!
Some guy, sitting intent in front of his computer, hitting commit at 0:01 (5 min turns) for the next 20 turns.
It was one of those games I would have quit if pride were not involved O.o
