I tried to make a tournament and you can only make friend invite ones.

I'm not alone in thinking that this site is dying out. One of the best ways to play is in well templated tournaments. Not being able to make those public is going to kill the user base.

:\

Any thoughts?

don't think the site is dying out, but it certainly went backwards with this. I'm guessing tournaments are too hard on the server?
Used to be fun browsing through the tournament listings looking for good ones, now we just have stand alone games to choose from and most of those are diplos or lotteries.
One day they were here, then suddenly gone and i heard something about them being revamped to cut down on the number created but its never happened, or if this IS the revamp, it's like saying ok, tournaments arent really wanted here

https://www.warlight.net/blog/index.php/2015/04/update-3-7-1-small-update/

Basically there were a ton of open ones that never started because people are dumb and don't clean up their invite lists and/or make tournaments too large.

the fact that this change happened months ago and you only noticed it now speaks volumes to how much you actually used the open tournaments functionality.

if you read the update notes you'll read the reasoning behind it, to clean up number of open tournaments that never get started. users barely visited the open tournaments page couz it was just cluttered with crap that would never get started.

and if check it a bit deeper and actually try to create a few tournaments you'll notice that you can still create private tournaments and invite your friends (the invite system was remodelled, so it's even easier to invite people). and vast majority of people who play tournaments get to them by an invite, not looking up what tournaments are currently open, so it doesn't really make much difference.

and if you insist in having public tournaments you can still have them. i think if there is none currently happening it costs 0 coins to create but i'm not sure on that one.

i find it amazing that whenever someone spots something that could be improved on this site the speech is usually "this site is dying" whilst in effect it keeps getting updates every month and the number of users has in no way diminished from what i can see in the open games list.

You are correct. If there is none you can make one free. Too bad there is probably one tied up by being too big.

If I were Fizzer, I would delete all open ones older than 3 months not started. Why should open ones be tied up that long?

so have them auto deleted if not filled after a certain time....
This is simply penalizing all for the action of some.

I find myself almost tempted to join the one Natto kindly posted, even though i hate 75% luck simply because we have no choices now

I believe we were told the tournament page was being revamped and are still waiting patiently for that to happen

How is it punishing anyone? Nobody gets a loss.

Why should a tournament remain if it does not have enough interest to start after a year?

because we cannot look and find a good tourny to join if we fancy doing so. It's taking away a part of Warlight that was appealing to many. Just because there was a lot of open tournys listed and not filled doesn't mean that many tournys weren't joinedand started after browsing through openings. That has been taken from us.

It plainly shouldn't, but why cannot it be auto deleted if it's still open after a month? At least it had the chance to fill and players had a chance to join it

A tourney that is 6 months old and has not started will not be a good tourney. The early rounds will be nothing but waiting for boots. If it is single player, not a big deal. If it is a team tourney, lots of people will suddenly find they have no teammate.

If the settings are that great, then re-create it and let people currently active join.

we are in total agreement over that.... as i said, auto delete after a month
but at least give everyone a chance to see it and decide if they wish to join is all i'm saying

and there;s the crux. we are not able to let people currently active join unless we have previously played against them. There's no freekin open tournament page!!!

True - but you can go to "Tournaments", scroll all the way down through "My tournaments" and you will find "Open tournaments" section. Not a really good place to advertise it i think.
Coin tournaments will also be shown in 'promoted games' in dashbaoard.

Most of the tournaments I was in have finished or are close. Many of those had great settings and good play. I didn't notice the changes because I just went to create a new one - wanting to play more and noticed why there wasn't anything to join: because you can't make them.

It is a feature that is rarely used. You join 10 tournaments and they might take a few months to a year to play out.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts. I just thought it was a shame that it was monified when the result is a game that is a lot less playable.

(Also, I've paid to play this, so it's not like I'm against supporting it.)
