I felt like posting this game as it's the only game I've come back really well from losing bonuses and having less income. What do you guys think of it?

yes that happens when you have enough armies to reck his bonuses

You didn't "come back after losing bonuses," you wrecked him while he was wrecking you, and since he had all his bonuses in one place while you had (safe)bonuses somewhere else, he lost out.(also not sure why he didn't go middle-east instead of south pole)
