GROUP B - FINISHED Falker (4-2, 1-1, 17) - WINNER Mirror (4-2, 1-1, 18, 1-0) - 2nd his balls. (4-2, 1-1, 18, 0-1) Orange (3-3) - Leaving the league (forum post) Tenshi (2-4, 1-1, 1) Metatron (2-4, 1-1, 4, 1-0) Frankdeslimste • apex (2-4, 1-1, 4, 0-1)
The group has finally finished... with Metatron beating Frank by boot, in a game that seemed to be pretty even. Gee Frank are you really that scared of playing me next season? :P Tenshi beating Falker wins him the tiebreaker, and he avoids relegation.
Therefore Noobschool officially takes the title of league staller, as he still has 2 games remaining in group F.

Hi Pushover, can you please explain your secondary tie-breaker to me. What does Falker's '17' mean, and Mirror and his balls' '18'? Could prove useful in resolving ties within the Small Earth League that I run. Thanks.

Great question huddyj. tojam, you are wrong.
As Frank as explained in previous threads, if it's still tied after head to head, the tiebreak goes to the strongest wins outside of the tie. The number corresponds to the sum of the places of players beaten outside the tie.
In the case of Falker/Mirror/his balls, all three players beat Metatron and Frank (6 + 7 = 13) but Falker beat Orange (4 + 6 + 7 = 17) while the others beat Tenshi (5 + 6 + 7 = 18). Therefore Falker wins the tiebreaker by virtue of beating a higher ranked player, Orange. (Mirror beats his balls in head-to-head)
Similarly, Tenshi's only win outside the tie was against Falker (1) while Frank and Metatron beat Orange (4), so Tenshi wins the tiebreaker that decides relegation.

Thanks for explaining that to me, Pushover. I have used a similar but more complicated system. Basically, if 3 players are still tied on head-to-head, then I give them a secondary win/loss record based on the combined win count of those players they have beaten (wins) vs the combined win count of those players they've lost against (losses). In this case it would be:
Falker (4-2, 1-1, 11-6) Mirror (4-2, 1-1, 10-7, 1-0) his balls. (4-2, 1-1, 10-7, 0-1) Orange (3-3) Tenshi (2-4, 1-1, 6-13) Metatron (2-4, 1-1, 5-14, 1-0) Frankdeslimste • apex (2-4, 1-1, 5-14, 0-1)
Edit: Of course, neither system works if they've each won/lost against exactly the same players.

Your way of presenting the tiebreak is cleaner, but I think using rank is slightly more robust, as two players can have same wins and losses but still be placed differently.
And indeed, that's the main weakness, when record outside of tie is identical. Lord Syvedyas has proposed to me in the past using kill ratios among players involved in the tie. That is, armies killed / armies lost. The idea is that lopsided games are rewarded/penalized more than close games. It will certainly decide a winner, but it's also somewhat arbitrary. Frank declined to implement this idea.
In the original rules of this league when Chokecherry ran it, 3 way ties or more that couldn't be broken on head to head were broken by a tiebreaker RR tournament among the tied players. Frank didn't like the way this extended the season, so he discontinued the practice.

Noobschool has completed all but one game! We're on the final countdown!
GROUP F ChrisCMU (7-0) - WINNER Don [ Ω ] (5-1) Polakillo (5-2) NoobSchool (AHoL) • apex (3-3) BlacKnight (2-5, 2-0) [NL] ARand0mPlayer (2-5, 1-1) [REGL] bobbob000 (2-5, 0-2) ChristophU (1-6)
These are the final standings of the group regardless of the results of the final game. Hoho. Later this week I'll put the final standings of all groups into one post so you can all salivate over promotion and relegation possibilities.
...also Miyagi sent me a skype message saying he's withdrawing from the league. Why he never bothered to post in the thread or thinks I'm in charge of this thing I'll never know...
