You've only played 1 ranked game, that's why. If you want to rank up you need to play more ranked games.

When in a game, click Menu -> Settings. Near the top it will tell you if that is a ranked or a practice game.

Winning ranked games will get you levels. Practice games are just for fun and won't award points.

I believe only multiplayer-games(against human opponents) are ranked,
to gain points/levels you need to win against human opponents, and the amount of points you receive depends on their level(and yours).
If you do not enjoy the multiplayer-part of warlight i suggest you just make a few games with the duel-map and have only one bonus have income, put the other on 0, that way the game is decided by luck in a few turns.

In settings in a multiplayer game you`ll see between the map- and team section if it`s ranked or not. In singleplayer games, you`ll not see this, (I assume it`s because all singeplayer games are practice).
