In light of the recent political earthquake in my home country within the largest Democratic Socialism movement, the Labour Party, with the leadership election victory of hardened opposition back-bencher, now Leader of Her Majesty's most loyal Opposition, MP for Islington North since the 80s, Jeremy Bernard Corbyn, also Head of the Stop The War Coalition, and also in light of the recent launch by the leadership of the United Kingdom Independence Party of the "EU Out" or "No To The EU" campaign, I think it is quite appropriate to have an open, adult, comprehensive conversation regarding the future and blemishes of Socialist Europe and/or Socialism in Europe.

The EU are a bunch of eco-Nazi Maoists who are trying to recreate the successes (and, thereby, also the failures) of neo-Communist China and vague Stalinist policies.

Didn't America legalise gay marriage transfederally a couple months ago? Europe is very split on gay marriage, even EU. Compare Britain/Norway with Lithuania/Russia.

You have managed to label the EU: Nazi's, Maoist's and Stalinist's. Which makes sense, if you ignore basic economics and common sense.

The EU is a free trade agreement with a few regulatory arms, an arena for governments to meet regularly, a freely elected parliament that does little more than scrutinize and has a court to settle disputes in a way that is more open than any national court.

It is based entirely on neo-liberal economics and a bid to foster relations within a continent that loves nothing more than blowing itself up. I accept that the Euro was overly ambitious and was probably a mistake and that the EU is too bureaucratic, but it is not Maoist or Stalinist in any conceivable way.

In a way, the EU has elements of Fascism and elements of Maoism.
If you look at the politics of the EU, they are very authoritarian especially with ignoring nation parliaments, referendums and enforcing ridiculous rules.

1. The EU does not and has never had the power to hold referendums, that it is entirely up to individual states.

2. All laws introduced in the EU are decided by the Committee, made up of representatives hand picked by the states, and the Parliament can stop them. They do not ignore individual national parliaments, they take all nations into account before introducing a law. It's inevitable that in a union of 29 anythings, be it countries or people, that you do not get your own way every time, the EU tries to balance this and does a pretty good job of it.

3. The EU regulations on the size of bananas are more lax than the British regulations, and the major supermarkets have even higher standards than those. Not only is it a bad example, its also completely trivial.

What fish did they put in it? What plants? What are they using to keep the pond clean? Is there any run-off? Is there a water shortage in the area?

If someone wants to build a tiny little pond on their country property that's their business, there's no reason for the government to stretch out its hand of red-tape.

One of the reasons I'm glad that I don't live in a big city is because that in the cities, simply getting permission to build a shed is more complicated than building the shed itself.
