Map makers work really hard on their projects and it's kind of a shame that they don't really get rewarded for it, except for a trophy that is just for show.

My suggestion is simple, reward map makers with points whenever a game is created with one of their maps. The amount can be fixed (Something like 100 points per game) or be dependant on the rating (Which I think would be better). For example, if a map has 5 rating, then the creator gets 100 points per game, if it has 4.5 then the reward is 90 points, if it's a 4, then the reward 80 points etc.

Of course there should be a limit on how many points a player can recieve per map. I think that 50, 000 points per map is good.

In conclusion, this idea can provide a decent reward to the creator and also rewards higher quality and more popular maps.

Original idea on which I can support but needs to be improved a bit. Warlight can use more map-skills achievements since WL is such a special alternate risk game where players can make their own maps. To honor this addition we would request our staff to encourage this furthermore.

this has been posted many times Omega, best thing to do: use the uservoice.
I think this is a really good idea, since last time I checked map creation is clearly not on the rise and declining. And warlight's success is partly (perhaps mainly) thanks to map makers, so Fizzer any thoughts?

EDIT: did not see your second post and uservoice link, forget about it.

How about not rewarding the map maker with a fixed amount of points but giving the map maker a certain amount of points for each turn played on their map.

I would also like Custom/Senarios to be searchable, like the map system, because with the current system it would be easy just to steal a scenario.

Scenario maker #3 also supports this though :) +3 on the Uservoice!

Good, I had two complaints when I saw the title. the first one was that you are going to put quantity over quality and the second one was that people might use maps to gain levels and lots of points, both of this is countered by the way your idea works. Good idea! :D

How about not rewarding the map maker with a fixed amount of points but giving the map maker a certain amount of points for each turn played on their map.

This has the problem that not the quality of the map, but the size of it is judged.

Two small improvements to an idea which I generally like:

Games created by the maker of the map themselves (or maybe games in which they participate at all?) should not count for rewards, since it's too exploitable.
Open question: how to prevent map makers from using alts to get around this...?

Not (or, not only) the amount of points per game should depend on the rating of the map, the maximum amount of points per map is what should depend on the rating of the map.

I know most map-makers aren't good at winning/gaining points from playing,
but even for them points are easy to get and hold little value.
points exist to get people addicted to warlight, get the impatient ones to pay,
and to lower/smooth the learning-curve.
(as someone who is working on his first map(s), i don't care for points as reward)

PS: Mapmakers can use all settings on their own maps, (unless Fizzer changed that)
which is off course handy but also a small reward in itself,
and it is way easier to balance this reward, since it is capped at a player's own maps.

How about "achievements" for each map ?

Otherwise, leveling up through plays will be too *linear* and strange. Tiers are more natural (rating/plays/tournaments/templates...)

Strange because you can see a map maker gaining pts every day without being online. With tiers, he will just level up 5 levels.

I see as well too many problems with this idea! First of all I would suggest to use Warlight Forum search for quite a lot similar topics that mapmakers shoud be rewarded something - might even be a uservoice for this.
As Min34 pointed out maps quantity over quality! I think this is already a problem? Most of the maps are not exactly played really often.

Second from Warlight Wiki
Players can earn points by winning multi-player games or tournaments, unlocking achievements, or from ladders. Points are used to gain levels, which unlock additional features.

So my question is why are the points important? What they give in real terms. If you want to open achievement the thats why the Lottery games were created - takes 1-2 days to open all unlockables. Same goes for achievements - i have never even looked what I have or not nor anyones else - I do not see point of this. If one plays for points, achievements then probably I would diagnose a repetitive feedback complex - or something similar it is called. I have always hoped warlight would not turn into those another addictive game-styles to keep some players playing, because they cant find meaning nor sense in their doings. (Just for a side note: it is rather odd to see world treating all kind of addictions, put leaving one of biggest trends on 21th century kill its youth).

If something were to be given to map-makers then. As posted on previous threads-posts, it must be something more valuable. For example choose every season a best map (either all submissions or particual theme contest) - and give maybe coins or even a membership. I think a method of that would be more welcome, because it will easily wipe out the quantity issue. Second 3 or 4 months is decent period to perfect one map - although for larger maps and people who have less time in hand it might take even longer as for me. After all I do not think most of the maps made deserve some price at all. Or just for every DECENT map made (let the Fizzer or somekind of community to decide) would give player a small amount of coins. Yes, inflation is the problem, but it helps Fizzer to promote Coin games and raise the playerbase as well (in this place I would assume players who play with coins know the system of Micro-finance and game-money inflation theory - I hope I did not violate any rules by pointing it out).

My advive to promote quality map making would be simple: 4-Times a year Full Theme Contest. Fizzers makes the Contest: Players are given 3-4 months to submit. And either Fizzer or Community would decide for the best map and some are given prices. (Maybe 1th to get membership others some coins etc). And for outside-contest small prices, grants as well to promote it.

* The same idea works on Guides as well. I think warlight lacks guides: Map-Maping, Template-Making and so on for gameplay. If Fizzer would announce best Guide-maker for each category would receive something - then probably there would exist one already!

You know how FIzzer has that yellow "Creator of WarLight"... how about one saying "Mapmaker"? And maybe extend this to "Moderators" too.

(According to Zipf's law, 20% of all maps compose 80% of all games, so maybe top 20% of mapmakers, by number of games played, will receive the tag.)

RvW: Defineatly agree with the first one and I don't think that there really is a direct way to deal with the second one, however using Alternate accounts would be pretty noticable.

ℳℛᐤƬrαńɋℰ𝕏:

"If you want to open achievement the thats why the Lottery games were created" - Hasn't Fizzer stated that he wanted to get rid of Lottery Games, since they didn't require any skill. If, that's the case and they are eventually gone there won't really be an easy way to grind for levels, so then the point reward will have a bit more value and meaning.

"Give maybe coins or even a membership" - This is why I suggested points. I highly doubt Fizzer (Or any business for that matter) giving away money, especially when Fizzer has said that he makes enough from Warlight just to sustain himself. While you suggested that the rewards be given in moderation, I still don't think that it's very likely to happen.

I think this is an excellent idea.

Of course, the details of the implementation will have to be worked out, but otherwise I support it veyr much in principle.

If am right then Fizzer said in first Twitch Stream that, he does not like the Lottery, but he does not see nothing exactly wrong or against the rules as they are not deliberately-scenario rigged. And direct hint of getting rid of them. Second even if they are eliminated - its quite easy grind up - just needs a little math and looking into where points acutally come from. And about the money - this is totally opposite. Its harder to explain, and usually no game owner want´s that to be shared but you will get plenty making simple google search. Printing little money is good for the economy :)

@TBest
We definately need one for moderators - if there are any :) In true sense. But why need a title for mapmakers? Its my personal opinion, but I am against all those fancy decorative functions - they do not offer nothing, just waste developers time. It may have a positive effect for community as people would be eager to make maps, yet they make them for wrong reasons - getting some fictive title under their name!
