Will Catalonia vote for independence?

On the face of it, the Spanish region of Catalonia is simply voting for a new regional parliament, which will itself elect a new regional president. In political terms, however, the ballot is far more important and interesting. The region’s powerful pro-independence camp has framed the vote as a “plebiscitary election”, a historic test to determine whether Catalonia should separate from Spain or not.


This is an election described as the most important in Spain's recent history, similar to what happened in Scotland last year.


Is it finally the end of Spain as we know today?

Yes they will. All other years until now, the two major nationalist parties (CiU and ERC) got more than half the votes among them. This year, they allied, and with other more parties, will have a 10% fewer votes according to polls. Those are the facts, like it or not.
