As someone from the relatively uniform anglosphere (former British colony) I am always cognizant of the way in which different culture's approach winning or losing.
As an example: if someone beats me in a game and downplays their victory saying something like: 'well done, you played well, Its only because I got a lucky break on the start'. I might assume they are from the States, or UK or Aus.
But if I congratulate someone for their victory and they respond 'Yeah, I beat you because you are just a sh** player and I am better'. 9 times out of 10 it will be a player from the continent, often Spain or Italy or Czech or E Europe(I check on their profiles).
I think this is a cultural difference, like how in the Anglosphere you are taught it is better to be polite than truthful.
Whereas in a Spanish speaking country you tell it like it is: like calling an overweight person they see in the street 'fatty' or a black person 'n*gro' (black).
Anyone else experience the same?

Andymo the 2 things you are describing is when you are beaten by someone normal vs a troll. I wouldn't say that those outside the anglosphere are more likely to behave in a trollish manner than those inside it, and I haven't experienced the same as you. I've never really played anyone who would reply like that being serious, but sometimes from obvious trolls.

Andymo, certainly Anglosaxons are fond of exceptionalism and that transpires in your post. Beyond that, I can't confirm any of the broad generalisations you're making. In fact, I don't think I've met any of the eloquent players you've been sparring with. Most of the people I meet in games can't be bothered to spell out full sentences, usually replying with single words and sometimes shortening "yes" to "y". Also, don't read too much into what the IP addresses say. My profile will tell you I'm located in the UK, but I'm very much of continental origin.

One thing to note about this is that if there is someone online who doesn't speak english as a first language, it's often a lot harder to downplay a victory and make it sound authentic. For example, I speak Spanish (semifluently) and I would feel a lot more comfortable telling someone in Spanish that I beat them because they're absolute trash that I would telling them that they played really well and I got lucky to win. Being nice is a lot harder in a language you don't speak naturally because you never know what connotations certain words may carry, whereas if you answer in a rude way, it really doesn't matter if you accidentally say something complementary.

Nihao :) As you know China blocks some important websites (not warlight, thankfully), which is why I often use VPN and may sometimes appear as being in the UK, or even another place.
