1444 AD was notable year in Eastern Europe, the battle of Varna as part of crusader wars was a defeat for christian powers led by Wladislaw III who died in the battlefield against Murad II Ottoman Sultan who continued the expansion in Balkan at the rest of the century.
Wladislaw III Polish King was also Ulászló I Hungarian King as Monarch of Polish-Lithuan Commonwealth and Hungarian Kingdom Personal Unio. His Empire fell in 1444 at Varna.
The transylvanian commander John Hunyadi survived the battle and kept fighting against Ottoman influence defeated Murad II in 1456 at the battle of Belgrade, his son Matthias Corvinus became the King of Hungary while the next King of Poland-Lithuania was the Iagellonian Casimir IV.
