They shouldn't of counted on the European powers of the time interving to help them. England may have done but they had there hand tied when the war was portrayed as a war on slavery. Additionally they got a lot of there cotton from colonies so the CSA wasn't needed for pure resources.
Anyhow they also had some cracking battle songs and frankly there flag is more aesthetic than the stars and stripes

If the Copperheads had won the 1864 election, probably. Actually, if the Confederacy had gone with guerrilla tactics, they might've been around today. It's all about making the invasion as expensive as possible for the North in terms of lives and materiel.
