In regard to cyclic vs. random, it is cyclic which changes each turn. Random would in theory be spread evenly, but there are way too few key turns where move orders matters much for the central theorem to apply in most games. Cyclic however is another strategic element of the game where players know (or at least should make an effort to know), when they will move first or not, and decide how to use this knowledge (as opposed to depend on luck). Cyclic have nothing to do with speed (that is no-luck cyclic), and still in only applies to the pick and decide who starts with first move - not like someone will always move first. I would strongly disagree that getting first pick is allways desireable. I often play intentionally to not pick first with non-luck cyclic. (but don't do non-luck, most people hate it. Just do cyclic)
