Recently, the Kepler telescope has possibly revealed an evidence for a technologically advanced civilization around a star 1500 light-years away. This star has been found with a highly curious transit signal, that was never received before and could suggest the presence of an artificial object. Nothing sure yet but many scientists say it could be a Dyson sphere-like object, an hypothetic structure collecting Star's energy something only a very advanced civilization could realize (if you heard of the Kardashev scale).
If any of you heard of this, do you believe in this theory? Do you think we would ever discover a reliable and unquestionnable proof of any extraterrestrial intelligence?
yeah i think that "alien megastructure" thing has been overexagerated by the media. Scientist can't explain why this star have some weird decrease in luminosity, without apparent pattern, by up to 20% of its luminosity. Wich is wierd, and unexplained. That's it. The researchers that published the paper never talked about aliens.
indeed 125ch, anything "unexplained" lead to imagination and speculation, the most possible explanation would be a giant shattered comet zone hiding from time to time the star's light, but still it remains quite odds among the spatial discoveries, for what I know, I only heard of 2 very "odds" discoveries: this one and another signal received by the SETI program in 1977 also known as the "WOW signal" (here a summary of it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow!_signal)
"alien" is not the right word used among the professional astronomers (quite a taboo because it leads to wild and hazardous theories close to sci-fi) but well some like Jason Wright and Tabetha Boyajian emphasized it could be an artificial object (thus what do you understand from "artificial" if not alien/extraterrestrial?)
Yes, in french, we only talk about "vie extraterrestre" for alien life and "extraterrestres" for intelligent lifeform outside Earth.
Also :
De Rerum Natura (II.1055-7; 1074-8): "It is in the highest degree unlikely that this earth and sky is the only one to have been created ... Nothing in the universe is the only one of its kind, unique and solitary in its birth and growth ... You are bound therefore to acknowledge that in other regions there are other earths and various tribes of men and breeds of beasts."

Hostile, I did not know you spoke French, but indeed "Alien" is an Anglicism.
Pablo, yeah it is, remember there had been only 2 very "odd" or totally unexplained signals so far (as I mentionned earlier) that could have been of artificial origin.
Gojirra, "NOT" is not right here, we know nothing so saying this Is or IS NOT an alien megastructure are both wrong, as here we know quite nothing about it, there are only hypothesis and theories.
McMuller, your source? Because for what I heard we will have to wait at least 2 years, in 2017 for new datas being released and exploited.
knyte, I would say: "We dont now therefore (in the least theories) Aliens!" but I agree that Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider. But nevertheless I guess as everyone here our money is on comet collisions or anything else "natural". But part of us hopes we would be wrong...
