Greetings warlights

Today we talk about the Anglo-Boer War which was renamed to the South African war.
What was the South African war? It was a war for South Africa, if you look at my last post when I discuss the Flag of South Africa and its influence I mentioned the Tranvaal and Oranje Republic.

The South African war as the former name suggest a war between the Boer republics and the British. 400 000 trained British soldiers against less than 100 000 Boere, a large majority of which were children. No military training either, these were mostly farmers.
The British thought it would be a teatime war. However like the Zulu people a few decades before, the British realised that these South Africans would not give up.

South Africans would be put in concentration camps, yes the first concentration camps were done by the British. The Brits also burnt farms.

bonus fact: Gandhi as well as Winston Churchill both partook in the war.

bonus fact 2: Uncle Sam is actually based off Lord Kitchener who was used in propaganda to get more British men to fight in the South African war.

bonus fact 3: The Polish resistance drew inspiration during WW2, fighting on 2 fronts against the USSR and Germany. They felt inspired that a smaller army could resist a larger, more prepared army

DISCLAIMER: I'm not sure about fact 3, a Polish guy on Warlight told me this

Interesting Facts/ Series.

I've heard a little about the Boer war in the past but I really knew little about it.

Also I'm curious how come you changed clan to BIA from M'Hunters

Genghis, fuck off.

I may be mistaken but this was the first use of proper guerrilla warfare...

If I am correct, the Kaiser sent a telegram to the Boers congratulating them, which worsened relations with the British.

@Cade, define proper. Guerrilla warefare had been used many times before. Were the Boere effective with it? Yes, but the first use. I doubt it.

@Falconguy, I remember something like that. Remember also that many of the settlers were also German. I do know that the Boere called for help from Germany however this call wasn't answered.

Interesting fact: Scotland did partake. Many Scots joined in the South African War to fight against the British.
