I'm f*** tired of these 13 year old "geographers" who mention a random fact about a country followed by some f^&$cking witty joke about that fact and think that counts as role play. "The Queen of England rides a giant corgi robot" isn't role play. Players think saying shit like this in serious diplo games makes them funny and cute.

YEAH ITS REAL GOD DAMN FUNNY TO THE PLAYERS WHO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE GAME, basing their role play on historical context and geopolitics. All my attempts to make a decent role play game have been futile; 50% of the players are silent and just don't give a f^&$ (why do they play?) and another 40% are GOD JUST SO TERRIBLE AT ROLE PLAYING and so god damn annoying.

Do these "geographers" have any concept of alternate history? No, you can't make it ridiculous just to be funny and cute that isn't the purpose, and no one's going to take anything from that when the game ends except the 12 year olds who didn't take their meds.

I'm lucky enough to have real-life friends that are very interested in military history and geopolitics who I play a lot of games with. If it weren't for them I would be driven to insanity by the typical diplo player base.

Made me laugh so wasn't complete shit-tier, but still stay the hell out of my games.

Diplomacy/role play is a niche interest. Players like yourself will always be on the outside and never fully understand the enjoyment it brings.

I suggest that you start your quest for the answer
by trying to understand the size of the user base, and the reasons that most people play WarLight... and then why people join roleplaying games, etc. :)

Join a RP clan or at least ask some guys of such clans if they want to join your games (or if you can join their games)

Good question!

I'm also quite tired of all anime steampunk superhero bs that people consider as "role playing". I guess it's ok in the right context as long as you don't trick me into that game. But taking this to serious alt history ww2 game isn't the right context.

Perhaps these people think that role playing equals japanese cartoon-like nintendo games. Perhaps that's all the role-playing they've ever done. I don't know, and I couldn't care less. Still I claim that any normal-minded adult could easily take a decent role in a historical diplo game if they wanted. If they don't know the particular perioid very well, there's this thing called internet. I use it all the time with diplo games.

The other problem is the depressingly awful sense of humour some of these people got. I mean, there is a place for good humour in role playing, if it's done right. Surely there is room for it in the pure strategic games. But if one just can't do such thing as "good humour", sadly there's no cure.

Anyway, I'm happy to do some serious role-playing.

What i've found is that you gotta host and join RP games until you've built up a list of respectable roleplayers, and then just only play games with them invited. Realtime is the #1 way to find shitty, immature morons. Some suggestions for you, 100% excellent players:

don't join open real time games... those are the worst. Try to join a roleplaying clan and take part in multi-day inv-only diplo game scenarios, they're pretty fun

I agree with my clanmate above. NEVER play a real time if you are aiming for a RP. When I want some of these, I only invite people I trust, to ensure a decent RP, at least. If you know enough good RPers, that's all you need. And if you don't... Join a RP/diplo clan! That's the best way to know RPers. Actually, I used to play diplos for a long time before, but I entered RPing when I joined my current clan. So, that is my advice. Enter a clan, meet new people, play games with them, where you will find more new people, etc.

I'd recommend you my clan ;) but I am not like spamming, there are some other RP clans too, just find one that fits you. Anyway, if you are interested you can join us, as you seem to know about that matter, so you are able to know good players

If you want good games you need to either join a clan that hosts, host yourself or get into the private RPs. I've played some pretty fun games with LN, give them a look.

Or why not make a group? (Just a tiny tag at the end of the name?)
There are plenty of normal and good Diplomacy players on WarLight that respond, read chat and act normal.



I love Diplomacy games, and some scenario's of myself too, mostly real world scenario's or fictional ones like Westeros. Most of my games go well since I use a minimal setting of level 10 and maximum bootrate of 30%. This prevents that people that get booted alot and just joined WarLight can't get in.
