Now, this might not be that exciting as how WGL usually is, but have you ever considered holding multi-day tournaments instead of only RT ones? I'm not nearly as good at RT, especially on templates I don't know already, and I get stressed for time, etc.
You could have the tournament and then do a stream of commentating on the games afterwards. Perhaps you could mix it with a smaller live event so it's still 'live'.
I think you would get a lot more participation in the actual tournaments that way. I would play, for instance, whereas now I don't because of RT.
Other potential benefits: You can pre-screen which games you will commentate on, so you will end up with a 'highlights' commentation, like how many sports-casters do it for weekly/daily news. You could almost certainly fill up 128 slots or even more with a multi-day tourney. Everyone, including commentators/hosts, could play in the tourney without distraction; there would be no problem with the hosts losing because they are too distracted by taking care of the hosting, and there would be no way for their opponents to cheat by watching the stream. Etc.
At first glance, it might not seem to fit with the 'live' part of WGL, but I think it does have potential to still be a good and entertaining show/event. I would watch them still. I have watched some of the previous WGLs on Twitch a day or two later after I missed them on the Saturday. It's just as good after recording as watching the stream live. I guess the only thing for a spectator is they can't join the chat, but the show is just as good and entertaining and educational. So if it wasn't an RT tourney, it would work just as well, IMHO.

wct: WGL focuses on realtime tourneys. anyone is free to livestream multiday tournaments and give some in-depth analysis, i think it would be cool to see more people livestream warlight stuff, but i personally think people prefer realtime tourney coverage, also i don't think there are that many people interested in hosting the stream. there is always atleast 20 people watching, so there is an audience for that, and some folks tried to do the coffee break style of streaming, going through a few important games of ladder recently finished and such, it just didn't stick as much as the WGL format did. truth be told i believe even WGL wouldn't still be a thing happening regularly if it wasn't for me pushing it forward and bringing in new folks to help when in need. i guess it's just regular cycle of things, people find it interesting, some help out, some end up retiring or losing interest, either you step up and actually do something to revitalize it or it phases out of interest and/or something else will eventually pop up to fill it's void.
