This competition will be about concept templates! Anything different, interesting, unusual or fun!

It's my belief that you can find strategy in almost anything, yes, even duel... (Dare you to prove it!) and I love building new templates. There are so many options in the game with so many cards and settings! Some people didn't even know about army-cap till today! I challenge you to find a really interesting interaction to make me go "Ooooh, that's clever!" :)

Your template will get a proper analysis. I will play it at least once with you to test how it works :)

I'll see about using Twitch, I've not used it before, could be a laugh, anyone else interested in join me? To commentate you must be open minded about settings.

I guess some of you will need incentive, so here you go!
Prizes:
1st: 1,000 coins
2nd: 500 coins
3rd: 250 coins
4th to 10th: 100 coins
11th+ a thank you for taking part. Yes, that's right, the best prize of all, you get a thank you! :D

Competition ends on 30th December. Results and analysis will be a couple of weeks after, say the 14th Janurary?

Boring or re-rashed templates do not qualify. Try and think outside the box. Can be 1v1 or FFA, it just needs to be interesting! If you don't like scary new things, don't worry! There's plenty of 1v1 ladder games to count troops in :)

Multiple entries: Allowed but only 2 templates can be chosen for final submission, maybe 3 if there are not that many in total. However to qualify for the prize only your highest scoring template will count. I don't mind how similar they are, and if you really want to get an extra one in then just talk to me about it! I will test all submissions, but ask you to pick 2 final ones :)

Bonus prizes:
Best template on Duel map: 200 coins
Best template on any map with 6 or less territories: 200 coins
(Can be won in addition to other prizes)

Example Templates:
Hexagonal Fun Times (2-6 players): https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9946438
No luck Duel (2 players): https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9932435

Master Turtle's New York Small 1v1

Template Link: https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TemplateID=744502
(The wrong template got used in Szeweningen's template contest which is fine but I think it has a better chance here).

4 Base Armies per turn, 3 territory starts with 3 armies on each. 1 Diplomacy Card for the entirety of the game that will last 1 turn, 4 wastelands of 6 armies..... Eh screw the description just play it or look at some of these games.

Games on it:

https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9937016

Edit: I can help commentate but I cannot host the stream. I think it is also helpful to play a game on each template so perhaps it would be better to do this in multiple sessions and just post the video results to YouTube.

Future edits will only be to add more Gamelinks.

Proof of Concept: Very Different Strat 1v1

https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TemplateID=757756

You may say that this template is the exact same as Old Strategic 1v1. But you are wrong sir! It has 8 wastelands, while standard Strategic 1v1 has 7. This very important change closes up the board, and makes you think about your picks more often. Szeweningen is just so stupid with his pick lottery unstrategic "Europe 3v3".

I can't speak for others, but for myself,

I'll join almost anything if it's a practice game...

indeed, for experimental stuff, that's the only way I would join.

Fair enough Dublin :)

Are you putting yourself forward as a tester?

Multiple entries are allowed, I think for final submission I was thinking only 2 templates each, but maybe 3 if there are not that many.

For the prize though only your highest scoring template will count, so if for example you came 1st and 2nd, you would only get the prize for 1st, and whomever came 3rd would get the prize for 2nd, etc :)

I'll add this to the first post, also I'm thinking of adding in a bonus prize for best duel map (or map up to 6 territories max)

I've edited my original post so it reads a bit nicer too...

Thanks Turtle :) Youtube is a nice idea, it's what I usually use, do you mean host the whole thing there rather than Twitch, or make youtube vids beforehand and use in addition? I believe youtube have now made it possible to stream, I might have to look into that.

Thanks for the other submissions guys, I will look properly at everything, I promise <3

I guess I'll enter with basically the same template as I did in the other "contest"

If anyone would like to help me test it, that would be great.

TEMPLATE IDEES' FREE FOR ANYONE TO "steal" from ME

1. Duel with multiple bomb cards...if done right the mind game gets very real here. Still possibility of a draw. (ofc. you need the holy M' to do this)
2. Any template on this map https://www.warlight.net/Map/902-Flashback
In my mind this could be the new quick game map. This is an easy to make good-hard to perfect template wise.

Reposting mine (I actually don't care about winning anything, I just wanted to promote the concept that luck can be strategic):

Here's my first attempt: https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TemplateID=744973

It's an attempt at a proof-of-concept that 100% luck WR could theoretically still be usable in a strategic way. I upped all the armies by 10 times, so that should reduce the standard deviation quite a bit. You may get a few odd results, but it's much less likely than if you were playing with the standard income and distribution settings. (10 armies might occasionally fail to take a 1, but 100 armies will almost surely take a 10.)

...

Here are the games that have finished so far from my Pure Luck 1v1 template:

https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9811076
https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9811839
https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9810435
https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9811838
https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9810630
https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9811085
https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9811279

Gameplay is very similar to the standard 1v1, just with a bit more variety. Also, you can pretty much delay as much as you want. I'm thinking of adding in more delay card pieces to reduce the impulse to use delay moves. Instead, you'll have to decide how many delay cards to use or to save for later.

Note: If you check the chat in some of those games, you'll see that at least one or two people actually thought it was a fun template, too, besides just being a concept template.

Oh, and to defeat Swenigan's objections, here's the same template, but where you receive an Order Delay card each turn, [largely*] eliminating the need to use simple 1-army delay moves. Consider this my second submission. I haven't tested this one, because it was not really necessary to use too many delay moves when I tested it in several games.

"Pure Luck" Strategic 1 v 1 (multi-delay cards): https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TemplateID=757860

I too am disappointed that the 'judges' did not spend anywhere near the time that would be required. Like, you know, 5 minutes to read a post describing a template. Or to watch at least one of the several example games provided. Pretty lame.

Edit: Latest list of example games:

[* Oops, I thought I had qualified this claim when I first posted on this thread, but I see now that I somehow left out the 'largely'. No, it does not completely eliminate the need for delay moves, and I never thought it would; I thought it would "reduce the impulse to use delay moves", as I originally said. Sorry if this omitted qualification caused some misunderstanding in the other thread. -- 12/4/2015 01:28:42]

Yeah, I honestly don't understand why Sze didn't even read through his own forums, maybe they aren't English speakers or something, but that surely just makes it even more important to do some prep?

Anyway, I don't want to bash people, I just want to do something good for everyone, I hope :)

I'm happy to look at anything, no matter how "weird" it might seem. I think there's always something to learn from everything new :)

Folks, be sure to post links to example games, pretty please, as those are the easiest way for a casual passer-by to get a real feel for your template. Fleecemaster has promised to play each one, which is really great, and he will be familiar with your template, but for greater exposure to more people to try your template, example games are the best.
