This is not a thread to rank mapmakers, but is a thread to give them a shout out for the hard work they have put in to their maps. I will link some of their maps and give my thoughts on their maps. Please don't feel bad if you aren't included but feel that you should be; this is not a complete list of all the great mapmakers by any means, as this is based a lot on my personal tastes. Feel free to give a shout out to any great mapmakers you think I missed, and include some links to their maps.

Incaman:
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=16114
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=24843
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=15843
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=35874

There is a very good chance that you have played at least one of Incaman's maps at some point in your warlight career. His most famous, Rise of Rome, is consistently rated above 4.4, despite having 2860+ ratings (second only to Europe). His maps are beautiful, and a majority have some strategic value to them.

lionheart:
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=49660
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=47418
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=50007

He's a pretty new mapmaker, and I see a lot of potential in his work. I really think Small Earth should be replaced with his version of it; it's beautiful. His maps all are eye-pleasing and they sometimes hint at some creative, new strategies. I can't wait to see more of his maps!

RA:
https://www.warlight.net/Map/8437-KPX
https://www.warlight.net/Map/10273-UrsaLuna
https://www.warlight.net/Map/14538-Final-Earth
https://www.warlight.net/Map/14319-Europe-20

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Ra's maps. I find them beautiful, but the strategy tends to be similar on many of them. That said, I believe any thread that claims to include the best map makers must include RA for his large quantity combined with his great quality.

Dark Mist:
https://www.warlight.net/Map/18584-Siege-Feldmere
https://www.warlight.net/Map/15568-Pangea
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=44886

His maps have some strategic value to them, although they do tend to be bigger than I usually like. They are also some of the best looking maps out there.

Mudderducker:
https://www.warlight.net/Map/15141-Hannibal-Gates-II
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=37857
https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=31270

I find Mudderducker's maps to vary greatly in size and type of strategy. Some of them aren't the most visually attractive, while others are on par with the best looking maps. The huge variety in his maps really allows a lot of players to find one of his maps that they really enjoy.

Some other great mapmakers I'd like to mention: Qi (for his maps with interesting strategies), Chaos (for his many good maps), Ranek (for his beautiful maps), Troll (for making Europe), Grundie (for giving the basic ideas of many of the more popular maps today), Fizzer (for improving on Grundie's work on the Earth maps)

In most cases, just a single space behind them works as well.

I think this list shows that certainly RA and Incaman are very popular with the community but several others have many great, underrated maps. It's always nice to bring the attention of the community to some of the better maps.

I'm not a big fan of RA, because of the whole map-stealing scandal. Incaman is a great map creator, and they're good looking! I've played quite a bit of RoR. I'm also a fan of zxctycxz, but that's mainly because I enjoy diplomacy, and he puts so much effort into each one. It also shows his historical knowledge. Apollo is a great mapmaker, and a well respected and popular one at that! Dark Mist makes some beautiful maps, but I don't play them that often. lionheart is not only a good mapmaker, but also a great friend! :D I'm proud to say I was the first tester of Sao Paulo, because I find the map so good. Qi makes some very well respected maps, and I am a big fan of Greece and China! Although I don't like GoT all that much, i think Damaeon deserves a shoutout for all of his efforts put into his maps. xXOmegaXx has some great potential as well! NinjaNic is a brilliant map maker who also deserves a shoutout. There are just too many good mapmakers to name!

I just linked a few of my favorite maps for each player. I personally am not a big fan of Avatar due to it's size, and I like his other maps more.

Math Wolf, it would be interesting to see you do another analysis like you did there, if you find some free time soon. That one is from a year ago, and there have been plenty of changes in the map world since then.

My personal favorite map makers are RA, Apollo, Qi, and Chaos, since they've made quite a few maps that are very good for strategic games (which I mostly play). Fizzer's Medium Earth, Troll's Europe, and Kayn's Imperium Romanum are excellent one off maps though.

Fun Fact: The Iron Curtain 2.0 is the highest rated map currently on warlight that uses a blue background to represent the sea.

As for Issander, he retired a long time ago.
I had some good conversations with that guy.

This was one of his last threads if I remember correctly: https://www.warlight.net/Forum/47056-live-london-help-issander

@Imperator - wrong. Currently it is my map which is using blue background for sea and is rated highest :P

edit: although technically it is not a background so you may be still right...

Well some people like Moros check Warlight regurlarly even after they have retired.
If Issander really would have returned and stayed here for a long period of time then we would already have noticed but we didn't.

That is technically correct, but it's just so messed up, It's like a guy dressed up as a bear and acting like an alien saying he's the best alien ever...
