First of all - if sb was expecting dumb game with graphics and this is the reason why he left - it is good for us beacuse noobz dont make this game any better. 2nd- what about those templates - is anybody willing to create one? Ursa Luna, maybe with some fancy settings (local deplotyment? non-defalut fog? or maybe jst classic game?)
Also it would be good to ask F upfront whether he would be willing to include some of those templates (after his personal inspection of course) into the official single-player mode.
In my view more of good single-player map could allow some players to get stuck to WL for longer and conseqently increase the number of new WL players. Increased number of single-player games could also allow newbies to be better prepared for multi-player. In fact we could porvide few templetes for different cattegories like "Local Deployment" - such category would include only templates with "LD" option (in this particular case) and will enable players get familiar with this feature....
and last thing - I am certain that there are a lot of people who would enjoy playing WL if they have the chance to know it better, and many of them arent kids
