I just took the TOEFL, here are my scores

Readding: 28/30 Listening: 29/30 Speaking: 23/30 Writing: 28/30 Total: 108/120

Quite good right? Wrong! One of the universities im aplying to requires an overall score of at least 80, but they require a minimum of 26 in the speaking section. Isnt it obvious that someone with an overall of 108 will improve quite fast in speaking once embedded? screw them!

Why don't you just go to University in Brazil?

USA doesn't welcome you, at least some universities don't

1st. I want to make a PhD in a competitive place, with a strong cohort and a dynamic faculty
2nd. I actually intend to publish stuff in a language in which there is a community discussing the stuff im thinking about, and portuguese certainlyisnt that language
3rd. Although I intend to work mostly on european thought, most of the guys I want to work on are either to old or just died, so I need to go to the places where the ebst work on them is being made, and it is in the states that I usually find departments with several persons I would like to work with. I will also apply for a PhD in London.Probably I will end up by going to the latter as they aren't as annoying in the application process as the americans aare
4th. I will not not apply just because some universities arent all that welcoming, I make my choice they make theirs. And if their choice is to refuse the greatest graduate student they could ever have, I can accept that.

That's why scientific papers are published in english with Phd's maybe being an exception where you might get away with publishing your work in another language. Without knowing anything about your field I doubt that anyone will force you to publish your stuff in portuguese.

That sucks. The department probably has had complaints from undergraduates that their TAs have heavy accents.
