Racism is BS, anyways, this conversation has taken a turn for the worse. My original point had nothing to do with race, I just felt that the dude was a sore loser and wanted to call him out for it publicly. And for the record:
- There were both Germans and Americans involved in the creation of the first atomic bomb, and probably other nationalities as well. It was the American government that had the vision to fund it, though, as opposed to Germany's obssession with the huge gun that was mounted on a train and solid fuel rockets.
- Contrary to popular belief, Eastern Europe existed, anthropologically speaking, well before Occidental America did. There were quite a few common bonds, although not binding enough to eliminate myriad instances of internal eastern european strife, that did separate the entire region from its neighbors to the west, such as the predominantly slavic language groups, the cyrillic alphabet, and shared resistance to the scourges of first Byzantium, and then the Ottomans, often with the tacit or overt assistance of the Russians. Sometimes the situation would reverse itself, as in the REAL war of 1812 (totally eclipsing the minor conflict of the same name that involved the US) in which Napoleon invaded Russia ostensibly to free the peoples of Poland from the Russian yoke.
The iron curtain was drawn over lines carved in ancient stone by the competing forces of the Ottomans and sometimes the Russians on one side, and the Germanic and Italianate/Papal powers on the other. Read about the siege of Vienna, and about the crusade against the Principality of Rus by the Livonian Order/Teutonic knights, both stories are fascinating IMO... It's amazing there's anything left of Eastern Europe besides scorched earth, so many wars have been fought there.
Sorry about the topic drift, but then again considering where it was going, maybe I'm not :)
