An Apology to the Warlight Community: 2015-12-29 15:27:03

So Queef and I wanted to come clean. The past couple of days our character and clan has come under scrutiny for "scamming" games. Normally this wouldn't bother us but some players that we respect and used to have respect from, have broken ties with us. Basically this our response to the community.

Most people know Queen and I work together in real life and we play Warlight in our downtime at work. We have a Co-Worker who is also in the clan, he doesn't play as much as us but he still participates. The Poon Squad has about 40 members and is separated into about 5 squads of 8 to ensure that everyone gets game invites. Unfortunately Queef and I can only have 2 games open at a time. So to avoid clutter on our game list we decided Dingleberry would create the squad games for us, so we could create other games for our clan. The problem with this is that Dingleberry was a low level due to his lack of skill and activity. His low level didn't allow him access to certain cards that we use for Official Poon Squad Games. We decided he should create massive multiplayer games to boost his score, but he didn't think he would win so he came up with the "cards" system to give himself a better chance. Queef and I honestly had no idea the cards existed the first game he created. We went along with it afterwards since he was leveling up so fast. Dingleberry needed to get to level 41 to create games and he did so yesterday, but the damage was already done.

Queef and I feel really bad that players were "victims" in these games, and we vow to never create games like this again. If someone sees anyone else in our clan create a game like this please let me know, and we will deal with him. It was point farming, but just so Dingleberry could have access to cards that in all honesty should be available from the get-go (order priority/order delay). If there is anything we can do to restore our reputation and character please let us know. We realize we aren't the most liked clan and we obviously don't take the game as seriously as others, but that doesn't excuse our actions from the past. Our New Year's Resolution is to repair some of the broken relationships in the community, and to set a better example for our clan members.

Have a happy new year, and Poon on!!!

All the best,
Pooncrew & QueefBalls

Like we said Salty we aren't really interested in pleasing the "scoundrels" of warlight. We are simply apologizing for past actions that hurt our reputation in the eyes of players we respect.

Well the only member with a good reputation in your clan was Martian and he left. So basically scoundrels are apologising to "players they respect" but actually it's very hypocritical because the poon squad can be compared to moe eisleys bar in Star Wars : A New Hope; full of the galaxy's biggest scoundrels.

Out of 39 players you needed to boost one of the 6 that wasn't yet lvl 41, instead of using one of the other 33?

Hey Oscar, thanks for your response. We like to allow only players with manager rights to create Official Poon Squad Games. The only people in our clan with manager rights are me, poon, and dingleberry. It's easier that way since we all know each other in real life so it's easier to communicate what's going wrong in any games (for example, getting booted from too many of these games can lead to dismissal from the clan). Hope that helps clear things up

Instead of playing unfair and increasing boot rate of other players (which is the worst consequence of this whole issue) you could have bought him a membership...

I decide to take part in this discussion because winning by "tricky" template may be considered unfair, but as it was said - apart from small changes in statistic na harm is done to the "victims"... On the contrary, winning by creating a template that allows for booting other players is sth completely different - it the latter situation you increase your victims "boot rate" - a prarmeter much more sensible for even a small differences in quantity and what is more important - prameter which may be crucial for joining particular games or clans ....

It seems to me that you wouldn't have cared unless those respected members cut ties with you. If you were so bothered you wouldn't have let it continue at the time. During that game that was linked on the other thread, I see no apology to the players in the chat, just Dingleberry shooting his mouth off and not a word from you to stop him. You weren't bothered about how your clan was being represented in that game, you weren't bothered how Dingleberry was shooting his mouth off, if you were, you would have reined him in there and then. According to that game chat, you also contributed in booting players and for you not to assume part responsibility for the "scam" and put it all on Dingleberry, well you're just making him a scapegoat.

I have a feeling if there hadn't have been so much uproar about it in the other thread, I highly doubt this apology would have come about. Its all just empty words in my opinion and trying to save face. You didn't think twice about it at the time and didn't care about the players you guys duped.

And you wonder why people question the ethics of your clan in general?

Great observations Styx, and believe me we see the error of our ways now. Dingleberry has been talked to and understands that he was in the wrong. The reason we continued with the charade is that it was working to level him up, that was our primary goal. We didn't apologize in game because we usually don't check our chats, consider this thread an apology to those players and the community in general. As for buying a membership, I simply believe 35 is asking too much, especially when fizzer has neglected some key issues, but I digress. We apologize and hope to mend our reputation going forward.

i get it, sometimes people need to level up in a clan to participate more. even in awf, we have sometimes felt the need to level someone up (cause of fancy internal ladder making codes that i don't understand).

thanks for owning up, but it really doesn't change much about how i see your actions. there are obvious ways to go about this more effectively without subjecting the public to it. if you have a responsive clan with members willing to help out you can create tournaments where everyone agrees to surrender to the guy you want to level up. you could create massive ffas and have everyone surrender. a couple of people in my clan pitched in for a membership for one of our leaders so he could create more tournaments. i think you can even move coins around by making coin games, but im not so sure cause ive never tried it. even in the lost wolves, where we shamelessly tried to level people up for custom scenarios, we never thought about trying to trick people in public games.

if you want to repair your image the best thing to do is to show it and don't try to talk it up. at this point you're not gonna change anyone's minds by announcing who your poon of the month is, or what steps you are taking to make sure people in your clan aren't doing shady stuff. a long long period of not hearing about these kinds of games is just about the only thing you can do to change my impression anyway.

I think the key here is open seats, having everyone surrender in a game is okay if they are all willing

This apology is messed up on so many levels. You "see the error of your ways" as soon as you accomplish your goal? Suuure. What this seems like to me is a fake "apology" because you got what you wanted out of your scam. You got Dingleberry to level 41, then you apologize, but never really take responsibility. You instead justify your actions, then claim that "Dingleberry knows that he was in the wrong", then promise to "never do this again". OF COURSE YOU WON'T DO IT AGAIN, YOU GOT DINGLEBERRY TO 41! There is no reason for you to do it again, so once your scam is useless, you stop doing it. This is rational, but don't expect me to believe you suddenly feel bad about a scam the day after it outlives its usefulness.

Everything I've said so far has been based on historical behavior and what I've seen in this thread. It looks like community backlash gave an incentive to apologize when the scam wasn't valuable anymore, but had the scam still been useful (i.e. Dingleberry wasn't level 41 yet) you would still be doing it, community backlash be damned.

However, there is a possibility that you are genuinely trying to turn over a new leaf. I sincerely hope this is true. Time will tell if your behavior improves, but it seems like you'll have to act respectably for a very long time before the majority of the warlight community will respect you.

@Shyb
Those are definitely great alternatives to leveling up a member that we honestly didnt think of, we simply took the easy way out and we are sorry. At least now he's leveled up and we can try to move past it.

As for Poon of the Month, I realize it's not for everyone, but I personally would love to see this become a thing. Seeing who is being celebrated in other clans really interests me and others, at least by some of the responses we get on the threads. I feel like that is prime material for the Clans Forum.

@Master
I can see why you feel the way you do. We had leveled him up and were done with the "scamming" then we saw the backlash and decided to own up to it. All i can say is these aren't empty words, but I can't control your perceptions either

Last thing I'm gonna say, as I hate long forum conversations on topics I don't care about.

Seeing community backlash and deciding to own up to it =/= sincerely feeling sorry for doing it.
