We all know games ruined by boots. It's really unfair for other players to see another one booted, even if, sometimes, the booted player could not do anything against it (and I know what I'm talking about, I just went on vacation for two weeks because of my computer ^^).

So, I'd like to propose a solution for this. Whenever a player (or several players) gets booted, let there be an option to re-advertise the game in Open Games. For instance, X gets booted from a game and Y promptly joins it, replacing X and taking control of all his territories & armies. It could have a nice little text in the log (X was booted from the game after not taking his turn for 3 days and was replaced by Y) and an icon/colour indicating you're about to join the game where someone has played before.

That way, the imperfect AI's could be skipped and whenever a player is booted, another player could step in to take his place. It could also be implemented for surrenders.

I can see plenty of examples where it would be useful. Team games, diplomacy games, FFA's. Even 1v1's where you don't like to win by boot or where you want a challenge and take over another player.

What do you think? =)

I think that there is already a user voice for this idea.

But what if the player purposely gets booted when at war ? That would serve quite a predicament for the new player.

As long as it's understood that it's 'join at your own risk', and a message alerts the player joining, I don't see a problem. Other games have features like this and do fine (many older online card games I've played had this, for example).

What if the person who replaces you is pure shite? I'd rather have an AI than some people in this game.

So don't join such games. It's the same with all sorts of settings.
