Firefox was never great, it was better than Internet Explorer, more well known than Opera,and lastly - available for use on non-MS operating systems like linux; as such it was widely used in the past. From the moment Chrome was released it was a faster and more secure browser than Firefox. No comparison between the two.
Aesthetics are subjective, so someone can claim they think Firefox looks nicer. Similarly they may prefer its addons vs. Chrome's addons, but it's objectively less secure and less efficient. It also leaks memory.

I like firefox cause it doesn't crash as much as chrome on my laptop or computer (yes I have a shitty laptop and a shitty computer)
