Although looking at it a second time, I guess duke did have a far superior positioning/armies on board. So the result would have likely been the same.

Right -- having 22 more armies on the board 49 vs. 71 is a huge edge. Also he had no way to reach my bonuses and I was on the borders of two of his (with superior numbers). I'm facing that situtaion in one of my games and I have the higher income. I don't have as big an armiy count disparity, but even still short of getting very lucky several times in a row, there's no way to win it.
I was somewhat fortunate in my game with Teddy there to -- I had exactly the right number of armies to take his entire stack out without luck. Of course, had I come up 1 or even 2 short, he still wouldn't have been able to bust me that turn, he might've been able to go first the following turn and get a bust while I chased his stack around (and in the meantime cut into that army disparity).

I'd also like to add that i was robbed on the 7x4 attack in Greenland which cost me 5 armies. Game wouldn't have been as close without that one.
