Bad fair-play warning: avoid BubbaTheViking: 2016-01-16 22:12:43

I would just like to warn players of BubbaTheViking because he was abusing the situation and "won" by out-of-game means. I can't say that he technically broke any rules, but the way he played was borderline abusive. If you want to have an interesting and stimulating game, he is not the guy to play with.

If you don't care, feel free to stop reading now.

Technical details to explain what I just stated follow.

I started an automatic 1 on 1 game to have a short fun before going out, five minutes per turn limit. First, it took him around four minutes (out of five as maximum) for the first round. I asked him what's the problem, he replied: "Drink wine.. chat on tinder.. watch magic show on tv.. eat peanut.. chat with u... chat with gf on wechat..". I said that I was hoping for a quick game before going out and he promised to speed things up.

...and he did quite the opposite. Out of 14 turns, I'm not sure he finished a single one in less than three minutes. He finished AT LEAST two turns only seconds before the limit ended, and the game was definitely such that it did NOT ask for so much thinking.

Now comes the interesting part: I was actually winning, in the end I had 94 vs. his 68 armies, base income 32 vs. his 15, but I couldn't wait any longer, I had to go out because of an arrangement I couldn't postpone. I said in the chat that I'm leaving, that I'll be back in a few hours, it's his right to kick me and that I'm curious what his decision was going to be.

As I was preparing to go out, I took a look what is going on at the screen and realised that he kicked me only a few seconds after the time ended.

Like I said, I can't say he broke any rules. I also can't say that he was DELIBERATELY stalling after learning that I was pressed for time, but it sure as hell looked like it. His smug comments in the chat didn't help either.

So no proof for anything and everyone will believe what he wants anyway. however, the only reason I'm writing this is to inform people that, if they see his name in a game they are planning to join, they either expect blows below the belt or avoid that particular game. I know that I'd want to know about such players so that I am able to do the same (avoid them).

Thank you for the attention and I apologise for bringing in some bad mood.

Tbh Corbeau, I actually feel for the guy you badgered into playing faster. The game is 5 mins so he's entitled to take as long as he wants/needs. I'm not the fastest player in the world and I like time to think over all the possible moves otherwise I make silly mistakes if I'm rushed and there's nothing more frustrating than a player who is hassling in chat to hurry up just because they don't bother to think moves over.

I can understand you wanted a faster game, but you can't expect someone to play at a rate they're not comfortable in playing. Solution? play a 3 minute game instead this means that you'll be playing with other people who similarly want to play fast.

I understand cases like that, but I don't think this was one of them.

TBH, i think your opponent was legitimately drinking wine. So he was not necessarily being rude/ bad sport on purpose.

Also he is not playing that slow... (that is not how you stall)
(Last turns)
Viking v. You
  2 minutes 0
  0 minutes 1
  2 minutes 1
  4 minutes 1
  2 minutes 2
  2 minutes 1
  3 minutes 0
  2 minutes 1
  4 minutes 1
  4 minutes 3
  4 minutes 3
  1 minute 2
  1 minute 4
  4 minutes 2
  4 minutes 2
  3 minutes [booted]
Average 3 v. 2

Furthermore, his boot rate is 27% so of course booting is part of the game to him. I strongly doubt that this has favored him in the long run. (He loses more on boot, then he wins.)

Not to mention that to a drunk player, the game is definitely on when you leave. I mean turn 12, he broke Russia. And the difference in income is only 4 (and no offense, but a lvl 50+ vs. a lvl 20 will then expect/try to win.) Two turns later, he may not have realized that the game is very bad for him now. He would at least try one more turn to see if he can steal russia, and regain West US. aka too early to surrender.

In my opinion the evidence would only show Viking to be a normal 1v1 Auto game player. (When you get up to a higher level, you will see that the super good WL players play mostly in the ladder and not Auto games. Thus, although your advantage is winning, in an Auto game it is not over yet.)
