If a Democrat/Socialist/Communist gets elected then no doubt the Republican party will grow beyond comprehension and win the next few elections, and with the Democrats up shit creek, the Republicans may actually fix some of the things wrong with this country.
If Donald Trump splits off into an indipendant run... Idk
If Donald Trump stays a Republican in this race, and still loses the primaries, I expect the Republican party to still grow a decent size, but as long as Rand Paul is not put in office some things will be fixed.

Provided Trump's support doesn't drop dramatically in the next few months, there is no way his supporters will put up with the GOP establishment maneuvering him out of the nomination. In that case, the party might very well split into two, like it did in Teddy Roosevelt's time.
In any case, it seems the GOP will change. It will be less christian, less tradcon, more libertarian, more free speech, and more appealing to minority voters who don't define themselves by being victims of the white male capitalist patriarchy.

The GOP wll probably fade away with time just like the democratic party. Classical liberalism and communism will pick up steam and get their own parties.

the right have lost the social issue war,it over. As old conservatives die out, the younger generation is much more in favor progessive social values, less religious (marriage equality, abortion, weed, etc). And this is true in all the developped world. The GOP has gone so far to the right that it is not in touch with reality anymore. The problem is that the GOP mix the exteme social conservative right with the moderate right, and i think that the moderate right will have to split with the super religious/super conservative right if they ever want to regain power again. I don't see a republican winning this election though.

Carson isn't that right actually...if you wanted extreme conservatism you could have picked Cruz :P
And to Relm what's your problem with Rand Paul? I still don't understand how the most rational Republican is some sort of existential threat.
Also as long as the Republican Party keeps going on like this where they sellout their grassroots base every election cycle then the party will inevitably split. Right now there are 5 main branches of the GOP - Evangelicals or Social Conservatives, Eastern Establishment or Fiscal Conservatives, Liberty Voters or Libertarians, the Old Right or Paleoconservatives, and the Tea Party. When the Republican Party splits (because its inevitable), Liberty Voters will move to the Libertarian Party, the Tea Party and Old Right will join the Constitution Party, the Eastern Establishment will join the Democrats as their moderate-centrist wing, and the Social Conservatives will stop voting as they will have no politician who can effectively champion their causes.
What will cause the Republican Party to split - if an establishment-moderate candidate beats out Trump and Cruz to get the 2016 or 2020 nomination, if Paul Ryan and the GOP Congress keep agreeing to raise the debt ceiling and spend more money, if Trump decides to run as an independent candidate, if they get walloped in the 2016 or 2020 election (lose the electoral college by more than 200 or the popular vote by more than 10%).

yeah...if the GOP has a future, it'll be by ditching the extreme right-wings, focusing on moderates, getting centre-right democrates to switch sides and join them because the GOP isn't so crazy anymore. If moderate republicans join the democrates, then its over for the GOP. But i don't think that'll happen, there always will be opposing forces, there has to be for a democracy to work.

Tchaikivsky, I like Carson. I also think he's a bit too far right for elections, and that he shouldn't have tried to run for Pres.

well we shall see. I tell you what, how about you put your money where your mouth is? I'll give you 3 to 1 odds that a republican won't be elected president in this election (including Trump if he runs as independant). Wanna take the bet? If you think that republicans have more than 25% chance to win this election, then you should take the bet. i'm willing to go as high as 50$ (meaning you get 150$ if you win, i get 50$ if you lose)

It doesn't have to be 50$, it can be a simbolic bet of 100 warlight coins. Any amount between that and 50$ is fine

I'd take that bet any day. Too bad I don't have coins. So what are we gonna do? I can bet $50.
Also, the right hasn't lost the culture war, the tradcons have. And the same will very soon happen to the progressives with their political correctness, feminazi'ism, and tolerance of radical Islamic terrorism. In the end, libertarianism will be the next cultural hegemony.

Progressivism is dying out. Liberalism isn't. Due to perverted use of language, progressives are being referred to as liberals, which they are not.
Liberalism or libertarianism means more personal freedom, less state control. Means more freedom of speech, less regulation, more individualism, less mainstream culture.
