Territory Inside Two Existing Territories: 2013-10-08 22:15:21

I am trying to create a territory inside, or on the border of, two existing territories. These would function something like the cities in the Large Map of Westeros (http://warlight.net/Map?ID=9742) (Winterfell is a pretty good example of the effect I am going for). The problem I am running into is inkscape doesn't seem to want to let me make an exclusion between two territories when the smaller one extends beyond the border of the larger one. Each time I try to do it the smaller territory is absorbed into the larger but the edge of the larger territory still extends across the middle of the smaller one (somewhat confusing to explain, feel free to ask for clarification).

I figure that I can just alter the two adjoining territories so there is a gap where I want my new smaller territory to go, but I suspect there is a cleaner and simpler way to do this that I am missing. Any ideas?

Screenshot please, or delete the original territory and make 2 territory.

Wouldn't duplicating the smaller territory and then using Path -> Difference on the duplicate and the bigger territory work?

If it overlaps both of the bigger territories then you'll need to repeat this process with each territory. If the smaller territory's in a different bonus then you'll need to outset the duplicate by 1 pixel before splitting.

Is there a simple way to outset the duplicate by one pixel? I figured out how to make the territories but they aren't showing up as the right color in my map editing and I wonder if this would help.

For Inkscape...

File -> Inkscape Preferences -> Steps -> Inset/Outset by (Or > and < scale by) -> 1.000 px.

This should only matter if the inner territory is for a different bonus, though a picture would help.

Lynx, I invited you to a game to show you what I'm talking about. If anyone else would like an invite to check out the problem just let me know.
