I'm kinda new to Warlight, but I've played enough strategy games to kinda figure out how this works. How am I playing here? I have a few game samples below/ | | V https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=10627488
I think you did really well if you are indeed new to this game. You seem to play at a much higher level than would be expected of a new player. Which is not to say there's not room for improvement, but I think you will learn just fine on your own if you keep playing against challenging opponents. Try to level up so you can access the 1v1 ladder. That's where you'll really get some good opponents near your same skill level.
Syria - you have a good concept of attaining bonuses asap and expanding every turn, as well as spending some resources hindering your opponent. In this particular game I would have placed personal expansion as a more primary goal than hindering the opp. but it worked out well for you because you were more diverse (esp. good in 0 neutral games)
Unicorn island - great example of hindering opp (orange) while developing your own income base. Those first few turns were what won the war, even though orange ended up with a larger income later. (That, and the purple opponent did not seem to have a clue.)
Hexmap - your op. had better placement, but you got lucky he kept attacking your strength and ruined his advantage, allowing you to trade positions. The strategy of waiting for him to make a mistake worked well here, but not all op. are going to just knock themselves out on your defenses. There is a good strategy I have employed with some success of presenting a target, then loading it with troops at the start of a turn to achieve the same effect.
Syria #2- better initial placement... there's not too much to be said here as it is another 0 neutral game so it is just a question of who has better math/foresight when choosing a starting location. He had better income the first few turns but by the time your borders met, you had an advantage. Had he started in Damascus, you might not have fared so well, but his choice to start on the border of the map was a poor one in a 0 neutral game.
All in all, looks like you're doing well and have a fine grasp of strategy.
Sorry to break the bad news semicedevine, but you were a mistake. Should probably off yourself.
