Either you failed at your American History or this is a poorly made joke. Those four states were the ones who stayed in the Union despite being ideologically different, and they still got treated like traitors just for being similar to the more southern states.

Loyalty is rewarded with martial law and the Union army treating you like dirt.

Note: I am not a neo-confederate, and consider myself pro-Union in this context. However, if you do the research the border states were treated like crap in several situations by the Union despite being mostly loyal.

Wait, he was calling those states traitors in relation to them betraying the Confederacy......? I assumed it was the other way around.
