Welcome to Turn 5 of The Impaller versus The World, a game that everyone gets to participate in! For more information about the game, view this blog post.

The winning item from last time was number 9. Use reinforcement card for an additional 5 armies. Deploy 16 to Colombia. Deploy 1 to Mexico. Attack Venezuela with 16 from Colombia. Transfer 1 from Ufa to Moscow. Transfer 1 from Moscow to Murmansk. Transfer 1 from Norway to Murmansk. Attack-only Venezuela with 6 from Brazil. Attack Cuba with 3.

Here's how we started

Here's the outcome:

  • The World plays a reinforcement card for 5 armies
  • The Impaller: Deploy 17 to Venezuela
  • The World: Deploy 16 to Colombia
  • The World: Deploy 1 to Mexico
  • The World: 16 armies failed to take Venezuela from Colombia. 13 attacking armies killed, 10 defending armies killed.
  • The World: 1 army transferred to Moscow from Ufa
  • The Impaller: 2 armies failed to take Colombia from Venezuela. 2 attacking armies killed, 1 defending armies killed.
  • The Impaller: 2 armies failed to take Brazil from Venezuela. 2 attacking armies killed, 1 defending armies killed.
  • The World: 1 army transferred to Murmansk from Moscow
  • The World: 1 army transferred to Murmansk from Norway
  • The World: 5 armies failed to take Venezuela from Brazil. 3 attacking armies killed, 3 defending armies killed.
  • The World: 3 armies captured Cuba from Mexico. 1 attacking armies killed, 1 defending armies killed.
  • The World received an Order Delay card

Here are our options:

  1. Start taking Scandanavia, using only enough armies so that we can take it next turn. This ensures we won't strand very many extra armies up here after it's taken.
Deploy 7 to Norway, 5 to Brazil. Attack Svalbard with 5, and Sweden with 3. Take Finland with the two 2s from Murmansk and Moscow to ensure we get a card piece.
  2. Hit The Impaller hard in South America first move, to try to eliminate him from the area.
Deploy all 12 to Brazil. Attack Venezeula with all 14 from Brazil and with 2 from Colombia.
  3. Defend against The Impaller in South America, and try to take him out with a delayed attack.
Deploy 5 to Brazil, 6 to Colombia, 1 to Cuba. Play the order delay card. Fortify Moscow -> Murmansk -> Norway. Attack Venezeula with everything (8 from Colombia, 7 from Brazil, 2 from Cuba)
  4. Start exploring Africa, Australia and Asia to attempt to locate The Impaller's other bonuses. Likely targets are East Africa, Indonesia or India
Deploy 4 to Ufa, 4 to Scott, and 2 to Brazil. Fortify Colombia -> Brazil transfer-only and Moscow -> Murmansk -> Norway. Take Nigeria, Tasmania, and Western Kazakhstan with 4 each.

You should interpret the stars as follows:

  • 0 Stars means "I don't care" or "I'm indifferent to this item."
  • 1 Star means "I'm positive we should not do this."
  • 2 Stars means "I don't think we should do this."
  • 3 Stars means "Maybe we should do this."
  • 4 Stars means "I think we should do this."
  • 5 Stars means "I'm positive this is what we should do."

Use this thread to discuss strategy. Feel free to suggest new options and if there's enough demand, I'll add them for voting. Have votes in before the end of the day Friday and check back Saturday for the next turn!

Thanks Fizz -- Looks like Imp put 100% of his income into defending Venezsuela last turn, so we can safely assume he's earning 12 (probably India and WA). That would also mean he missed a card piece that turn. I continue too think the best outcome is to get Imp out of SA by any means. The most he can hit us with is 12 (killing 7.2). We can defend against that attempt by splitting our income, using the delay and then hitting him. But 2 attacks of 8 only kill 4.8 each. So unless imp attacks us first we can't take out a 12. Same problem if we go with we go with 13 (7.8) and 3 (1.8) - which is option 2 a bit more optimized.

So it comes down to two options for me. Either:

  1. Deploy 6 to Brazil. and 6 to Colombia. Play the delay card. Take Finland with the two 2s from Murmansk and Moscow. Transfer the 1 from Norway to Finland. Attack Venezeula with 1 from Cuba, then 8 from Colombia and then 8 from Brazil.

or

  1. Deploy 9 to Norway and 3 to Brazil. Transfer only 2 from Columbia to Brazil. Attack Svalbard with 7, and Sweden with 4. Take Finland with the two 2s from Murmansk and Moscow.

I prefer option 1, because I think Imp will try an attack and we can take him out of SA and win the game if it goes right. Option 2 woudl boost our income by 3, but it might also force us to head into Africa and blockade Argentina. Which I suppose could be option 3 (if we want to to just give up on taking SA -- I do not think this is smart).

Imp could easily run to Cuba as well to still be in our area and we'd be out of a bonus. At that point though, it's a chasing game and we have him out of SA and can get it the next turn (which in option 5 we'll have to anyway). I think we should still be persistent in SA because he might have tried to get us to think about bonusing up before we hit him again and then he can scoot somewhere else.

I vote option 5

attacks with 9 and 7 are not as good as 8 and 8 because the raminders are lower so you reduce your odds of gettign the extra kill. You're more likely to kill 9 instead of 10 that way.

One question. Is there anyway to see the game itself and have control of the history slide bar?

It would be nice to know where the wastelands are though; without having to go dig for the 1st posting.

interesting thing u said there Duke, thx
u reckon 10-6 is also viable?
just a feeling i've had that hitting with a bigger number first ends better, but might just be an illusion ;)

Hitting with a bigger number first is better when you factor in how many you lose to the defensive bonus. I was only looking at how many we kill, which will be the same other than factoring in remainders
