Why should there be titles for anyone else than the winner? It's double eöimination so the winner is the guy who didn't lose more than 1 game on the tournament.

If you really need to give the winner of the single elimination a "trophy", it's nothing else than the single elimination winner

And, I also need suggestions for the 2016 Championship (else I will just pick something, maybe LD Turkey, I hear that mentioned a lot...)

Ok, so "Single Elimination winner" ?

I kinda see that as the description more than the trophy name, can't you think of something more snazzy?

Edit: Also I prefer to call them "Medals" not "Trophies" so they don't get confused with the official Warlight trophies. These would be more like achievements, but again, Warlight uses those too, so I went with "Medals"

Edit2: The reason I wanted to add "titles for anyone else than the winner" is that it's such a large event I wanted to give some kind of "prizes" to players to make it more fun and interesting, I think a straight tournament would be kinda boring for something so community based. There's already 3 coin prizes, so I figured 3 medals would also be nice :)

The format is Double Elimination so I assume the overall tournament winner will hold the Warlight World Championship (WWC) title. "True champion" should logically be whoever holds the aforementioned title, so imo, this is not a good name.

The winner of the Single Elimination bracket is either going to be the same WWC winner, or the WWC runner up. If being the runner up is not good enough and the people feel they deserve a Championship title for winning the Single Elimination bracket, that sounds like a People's Champion; not the true WWC champion, but still a champion in the eyes of the people.

I see, though I'm not sure "People's champion" maybe makes much sense...? That would normally entail the idea of popularity, which perhaps may not be true :P

and it may be that the True Champion is runner up, he may also be the winner of the tournament though. The idea is that if it wasn't for the road to redemption, if it was just single elimination, he would be the True Champion. But with the Road added on, the winner of that vs the True champion decides the World Champion.

I dunno, maybe it's silly, I could just take the medals out, I just wanted to add something in to make it a bit more fun, if people don't like it I will drop it.

I think it's probably best to keep it as double elim though, to give everyone a good chance at the title, and I could do with a nice template for the next one :)

Quite a few people in the tournament chat have also said it would be better not to have the medals at all, shall I just remove them? They were just supposed to be a bit of fun to promote discussion, but it seems that people think they detract from it?

If you have any comments on this tournament or ideas for the next tournament (The 2016 Warlight World Championship) then please post them below! I would like some suggestions for a template too, it has to be true skill, else I cannot make it an open tournament with a prize.

Instead to spend your money to create such a huge tournament, you can simple be the (main) sponsor of a real Warlight Championship (series) without any limiting factor!

I mean, I am sure that the community can construct a professional Warlight Championship system (so not only a simple tourney) and if the prize pool will be high enough, all the best players likely will join and play.
And at the end, you can give the prizes to open coin games with 1-3 placed players and surrender them (still support Fizzer by the rake).

That would be a real Warlight Championship imo (without any settings and format limitations)

I'm not really sure what you mean.

This tourney only cost like, $30 or something, that's not going to be enough to sponser some huge additional code...?

I'm modeling this tournament on the "Snooker World Championship" as it's a knockout tournament for individuals. Or I suppose it's also like any Tennis Championship, if you are familiar with those.

Not sure this helps with your question, but I'm not entirely sure what your trying to suggest, sorry...

The winner of the single elimination should be called 'Last Man Standing' as he is not a champion yet, but is the only player at that point to have not lost a game.

Edit: I will enter the next championship if the template is small earth 1v1 with bomb card and commander.

@Fleece
eh, sorry for my weak English... try again :)

The present (double elimination) format is bad not because it is expensive but the limitations of it.

For example the mandatory true skill settings you wrote.
But more important imo that this double elimination format not enough to decide who is the (valid) Warlight World Champion. Would be better for example a best of 7 (or more) format playing on different templates (from a srategical templates pool). But this is only an example, professional players can propose more better formats I think.

And can be more sponsor, not only you (e.g. I am open to spend my coins as a sponsor too), so that 30$ can be more, but not this is the most important thing I think, this is only a plus motivation for players to play on this series. What is the important, find a good format to decide in a correct way who is the best players. I mean the best possible (I know there is no a perfect format).

I see what you mean, but the main goal of this tournament was to utilise the open tournament (which in my opinion is under-used)

To be able to win a single or double elimination of this size really is a feat, and even more so than I would suggest a RR is, seeing as you have to win all your games (bar 1 in double elim)

This is in the same format as the Snooker World Championship or a Tennis Grand Slam and is well proven.

"Pure Skill" is the only real limitation, but seeing as most players seem to want to take luck out completely, I think this isn't really much of a limitation.

Also doing it this way is very simple to set up, and if in the host stopped playing, the tournament would still go ahead and prizes given :)

Nah, Duel map all the way.

And I can't do WR on an open tournament, and I think my other reasons stand up. Unless you think I should just drop the whole thing, do people really not like SR?

@Fleecemaster

How is the ladder a source that determines whether or not players prefer to keep luck out of the game?

I'm assuming your respons will be that more players have joined the ladder since it changed and that it is due to luck.
I can assure you that this is not the case, because more players are joining the ladders because 1.) Players now receive a 1 month free membership when coming to warlight. 2.) More players are joining warlight now than before so it would naturally increase the population on the ladders.

If the template was changed to WR I'm sure it would receive another increase of players on it.

the main goal of this tournament was to utilise the open tournament (which in my opinion is under-used)

If this is your only important goal, then I have no more proposals, set some funny/enjoyable settings and go.

But in that case you should not give the World Championship title to the tourney (of course you can :P).
I try to explain what I mean.

I do not know the Snooker system, but for example in the Tennis this tourney can be even a Grand Slam (the format good enough for it) namely the biggest tourney level. But the "World Championship system" in the tennis is not so simple. It is based on the ATP ranking system where count not only 1 Grand Slam but 4 (plus 8 ATP1000 and 6 best of other tournies = 18 tournaments). And finally the year end ATP World Tour Final. (you can read more about the system here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_ATP_World_Tour_Finals)

As you can see, being Tennis World Champions is not to win one (even so important) tourney, it is much more.
