I argue this with people ALLLL the time. America did not intend religious freedom for every religion, it intended to allow freedom for all the CHRISTIAN sects which were battling in Europe at that time. America in this period would have gone into civil war if they refused to only allow one Christian sect because there were so many in the US. But there is no way the founding fathers could have predicted boat loads of Muslims coming to America.

Yes, the President originally got Sunday off because the US and its citizens were a Christian nation and Sunday is reserved for church and your family.

What the passage says is that It's better to not get married and just never have sex, but if you have to have sex, it's better to get married than to "Commit immorality" ie. Having sex outside of marriage.

The reason I referenced that specific passage is that it makes reference to "his wife" and "her husband" as singular nouns, implying that it's not okay to have more than one.

Well, if someone can provide a reason other than religion on why we should have polygamy, I'm all ears.

I think that an issue like that should be given to states to decide, not the federal government. And if they all say no, then that's what the states think, not the "big spooky totalitarian government".

There can be a lot of legal issues with polygamy like custody, inheritance, and so forth.

As long as you're not harming the spouses like you would if one had a single partner, I don't see an issue.

Besides, look at some of the polygamy in the Bible. Note that this is coming from the Torah itself, since I am a Jew (waits for the insults), and that the Hebrew translation is probably more accurate.

Abraham gets his wife and a concubine.
Jacob gets two wives and two concubines.
Moses is implied to have a second wife.
David marries/sleeps with tons of women.

And if we're drawing laws from the Bible, we might as well make incest legal. I don't even want to go through all the incest, since it makes Game of Thrones look genetically OK.

Most of the Incest is from the whole Adam/Eve are the only people in the world thing.

This^ isn't really true... Mohammed did have multiple wives; but not at the same time. It was like a man had his wife die and then married another one. The reason of why it is accepted in the middle ease is because the Persian culture (and Babylonian kind of stuff) kind of screwed up (not in a bad way screw up (no offense to Persians or native cultured people)) the teachings of Mohammed when it was getting adopted in places like Iran or Syria.
