Not enough folk realise this difference - gender is what you think, sex is what you are.

I'm not convinced by the idea that gender is "Whatever you think your gender is, that is it". If your "gender" doesn't correspond to something in reality, I would argue that it doesn't actually matter what you think, as a gender does not solely describe a state of mind.

For example, If I was Gender "Elephant". I could draw a mars symbol with an elephant snout sticking out of it and proclaim my new gender to the world.

However, unless I am actually an elephant (Newsflash, I'm not), The idea that my gender is "Elephant" has little merit, regardless of my state of mind. If I were to argue that I was Gender "Male", this idea actually corresponds to a biological trait of my body, which I won't specify, as I'm sure everyone is familiar with what trait I'm referring to.

The point is, Your state of mind and your gender are not the same thing. Of course there are thousands of states of mind. Gender means something else as well, which in my opinion is that your state of mind corresponds to reality.

I mean, that's just what you think of "gender". "Genderfluid", for example, is not something that is truly "real", but it's a gender of kinds. You could be a woman gender with a man sex.

Gender, in my opinion, if it does not correspond to your sex organs, is an omen of a dumbhead.

IMO the distinction between "Gender" and "Sex" is unnecessary, especially given that it is a purely human concept. When describing animals, these two terms are interchangeable, and most people still consider them to be interchangeable for humans as well.

What I'm trying to say is that if you don't have any actual biological reason for saying that you are something, then your statement is pretty meaningless. Sure, I can claim that I'm a woman all I want, but given that I am not actually a female biologically, and the accepted definition of "woman" entails being a female, My "Gender" Is nothing more than an idea. In addition to this, It is a perfectly reasonable assumption for another person to make that I am a man, given that I am male, and being male is also entailed in the word "man".

Well, yeah, most of the time, they're usually precisely the same. I agree, though, with the list of what you have said (but in some beasts, it's kind of harder to class. For example, some sea sponges basically fence with you can guess what, and whoever gets hit gets pregnant, and is the woman (psychologically? barely applicable word), and the other is the man.

I challenge your definition of 'gender', it seems you have cherry picked the definition to your liking, and from Wikitioniary too! (which can be edited by anyone). Here are more credible sources you conveniently ignored...

Oxford : the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones):

Marrian Webster : the state of being male or female.

Dictionary.com : either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social and cultural roles and behaviors

But Dictionary.com has another definition labelled under third gender!

However, this word has no origin, and so was likely coined recently. Indeed, no other dictionary (except Wikipedia) site seems to offer any definition on 'third gender'.

Based on the definitions, does it seem to validate genderfluidity and transgenders? Yes.

However, the traditional definition will also rules out labelss like bigender, agender, and other like terms already!
Its shocking how all these labels are all being abused and changing so that people can convince themselves they are special snowflakes!

Here's a dose of realism.

Men are born with dicks, Women are born with vaginas.

Imagine that!

A Man: Produces sperm in his testicles.
A Women: Produces eggs in her ovaries.

If you can't produce eggs with a dick or sperm with a vagina, your not a man-born-as-a-women or a women-born-as-a-man.

I no longer wield Oxford after doing a bit of research on it. Their "word" of the year for 2015 was an emoji, they have just wrong or inapplicable meanings in some of their words (see http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/karakalpak?q=Karakalpak), they have a good blog, that's it.

I haven't heard of nor wielded Mirriam-Webster, so I couldn't really tell you much about its goodness.

Dictionary.com (of which I haven't really looked into, either) agrees with me, I don't see what's the dispute, here. See their usage note, too. Doesn't matter if it's coined recently, it's still a word.

I frankly think that Wiktionary is underrated as a dictionary, I think it's the best online dictionary there is. Sure, it can be edited by anyone, but the anti-vandalism jobs are really good at their work, they really hound folk about sourcing, I don't see any problems. It has many dialectal words that Oxford just leaves out, like "frain", and actually gets it right (see https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Karakalpak). For non-English tongues, I get where you're coming from, but it's fine for English.

Seriously, gender is just a handy word to tell apart from sex. Folk whose gender is different from their sex, they're weirdos. What've you against this easy classification? And obviously, words can't have sex organs.

Men are born with dicks, Women are born with vaginas.

A Man: Produces sperm in his testicles.
A Women: Produces eggs in her ovaries.

What do you have to say about castrated men or women? Genderless?

Okay, Wikitionary by the average Joe is more accurate than the Oxford Dictionary, which is constantly being developed at millions of pounds. Why the word Karakalpak is even relevant to the English dictionary, I don't know.

But you're right, genders gives a easy classification from sex in today's politically correct world. I was merely arguing against the rationale of people describing themselves bigender of agender or other like terms.

I definitely think so. Those money are being wasted for Oxford. It has a good blog, that's it. An omission: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/spellcheck/english/?q=Galiza. But they include http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/galicia?q=Galicia.

In the meantime, Wiktionary has both.
