Happened recently, 8 folk died.

Flooding is a bit of a problem down here, I know folk who lost their homes to floods and it's a big danger so the city even made "turn around don't drown" signs to warn folk away from crossing flooded roads.

Schools were closed for 2-5 days. It was pretty bad, although not the entire Houston area was affected (my folks' area was fine).

One of the dead was someone I'd met before, though. They were a pretty nice and friendly person; shame I won't get to see them around anymore.

..but kids in Africa, they have it much worse and never get the media attention they deserve. Just 2 days ago, in Angola, 9 deaths due flooding.

If it's not flooding it's tornadoes, if not tornadoes it's sandstorms, if not sandstorms it's snowstorms, if it's not snowstorms it's wildfires. The weather is a bit of a mess here, kinda ironic considering lots of people think Texas is a purely desert place.

That's naught - 208 folk died and 100+ kidnapped in a border raid into Ethiopia, just several days ago.

Yeah I know it's not as bad. Can't really say it's more important than the South Sudanese raid into Ethiopia.

It's a sad thing that happened in Houston, but it's also a shame that the media is so selective to information and when it comes to tragedies.

On the span of a year, in Brazil we had one major, HUGE environmental disaster, a terrible epidemics of zika, widespread corruption on the olympic games infrastructure projects, and a pluri-partisan big political scandal that hit hard both government (hated by the media) and the opposition.

Guess what has had the largest media coverage of all? The political scandal, on the government side -.-'

To be fair, TG: Zika was covered, albeit just how it would affect us.
