I'd prefer 2 games at a time too. The game count - looking at the upcoming seasonal - would be too high for many players.

"Recall that the only reason we are waiting on a tiebreaker game now is because i screwed up the tournament creation. Otherwise it would have completed already." K thanks for the info. You mean i am still playing the group because my group started late and to make it worse my opponent went on vacation for 15 days and he was one of the last players to play against right? Even though our game does not matter for positions of next season, we both know it could have. I'm not sure but i think there was someone else on vacation in my group.(check this) We both know that more payers/groups increases the chances of it happening again.
What are we going to do to fix that? Since increasing players per group increases the chances of it happening not reduces it.
"Metatron, I'm talking about players who don't announce ahead of time that they are dropping off. See history of prior seasons, particularly the lower groups."
Yes you need a way to remove that problem or solve it fast enough.
"On games: currently we have 2 at a time, 6 total played, ratio of 6/2 = 3. I propose 3 at a time, 7 total played, a ratio of 7/3 = 2.34."
"Tell me again how this takes way longer?" It doesn't, it actually speeds up the tournament as we want it to, but I already addressed that option and concluded that its best not to do that because most players cannot handle more games. Here is my reply to that point: ""3 games at a time is in play" I don't think this would be a wise option for busy players, so I'd be agreeing with Timinator here that 2 games at a time is best."
"Want to make a wager? Sorry but from now on I'm ignoring all arguments on this specific subject." If you increase the amount of games it seems unfair for players who joined league because they thought they could handle 2 games at a time some year ago. You are like changing the contract for them without prior notice. What will happen is that some will try to handle it and when they get booted they will just drop out next season.(increasing dropouts of good players on the the top groups)
Understand that not everyone has enough time like us, when I was busy with exams I got booted out of 3 of 6 games when I was in group B and fell back to C :( So I know the feeling.

3 games at a time seems too controversial to adopt right now. So I'll keep it at 2.
I am wary of increasing group size and number of promotions with game limit at 2, so i'll keep it at 2 promotions at a time and 7 players per group. I don't want to reduce to 6 players cause this will force some demotions i don't want to force.
So the final question to be answered is whether we want 1/2/3 tier system or 1/2/4.
I am leaning 1/2/3, with A/B being 1, C/D being 2, and E/F being 3. (G might be 4 groups again with the number of new players signing up.) D will uniquely have 3 demotions per group so that we don't have to have tiebreakers by default.
Any other comments?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! well its kinda broke. xD it could take like 8 years for someone in the lowest division next season to get to the top (and WL ain't gonna last that long, lol)

@ Pushover, so you are refering to this basically?
Tier A - 1 group of 7, 2 relegate Tier B - 1 group of 7, 2 promote, 2 relegate* Tier C - 2 groups of 7, 1 promote, 2 relegate* Tier D - 2 groups of 7, 2 promote, 3 relegate* Tier E - 3 groups of 7, 2 promote, 2 relegate* Tier F - 3 groups of 7, 2 promote, 2 relegate* Tier G - x groups of x, 6 promote in total**, no relegation * or less in case of dropouts? ** or more in case of dropouts?
Tier C or up: 28 players, Tier D or up: 42, Tier E or up: 63, Tier F or up: 84
vs.
Tier A - 1 group of 7, 2 relegate Tier B - 1 group of 7, 2 promote, 2 relegate* Tier C - 2 groups of 7, 1 promote, 2 relegate* Tier D - 2 groups of 7, 2 promote, 2 relegate* Tier E - 4 groups of 7, 1 promote, 2 relegate* Tier F - 4 groups of 7, 2 promote, 2 relegate* Tier G - x groups of x, 8 promote in total**, no relegation * or less in case of dropouts? ** or more in case of dropouts?
Tier C or up: 28 players, Tier D or up: 42, Tier E or up: 70, Tier F or up: 98
Note that 7 players does run into the "no games for last player at the start" problem again. However, this problem isn't so bad as it seems. As soon as 1 game is finished, the 7th player immediately gets 2 games (versus the 2 players from that first finished game). If I have some time (unlikely, but you never know), I may run a simulation on the time until a tournament finishes.

yes this is what i mean... a minor change in the 1/2/3 version though: i want 3 relegations from B and a playoff promotion between 2nd place C1 & C2. i anticipatethe B/C threshold to be a bit of a bottleneck. I guess the same for 1/2/4... but i am leaning towards 1/2/3 right now.
Also, I think from now on I want to always have at least 2 relegations (except for extreme circumstances, like half a group dropping out); i'd rather promote extra players to fill extra spots given this new hierarchy, than prevent people from moving down.

I'm currently planning on groups for season 20 being made Next weekend. This is because, when drafting groups, I realized that I actually *did* want a group B tiebreaker. Oops. Thankfully MoTD, Turtle, and I are all roughly in the same time zone, but some of us are busy this weekend, so we'll need another week to knock out the tiebreakers. if for some reason we can't do the tiebreaker, i have a method i can use, i just don't like it.
There are currently 4 more spots in newbie groups that can be claimed, after that new players will be waitlisted.
The new season will begin despite the outstanding games in groups A, C, and I tiebreaker, as their results will not matter.
So the approximate timeline: August 6 - Season 20 groups are made and invites sent out August 13 - Warnings sent to players not joined to groups August 16 - Waitlisted players added to newbie groups August 20 - deadline to join groups, after this date all groups will be force started
Group play will begin after all players join their group.

Generally no, players on vacation should have the chance to join their group. However 2 weeks exceeds the length of time of one vacation. In order to log in to renew your vacation you still get a blinking notification for messages sent out to players who haven't joined, and you still have a pending tournament invite.
At the beginning of season 19 MoTD arranged with me to be able to join his group even though he was on vacation and unable to join by the original deadline. Falker, on the other hand, did not join his tournament and did not communicate with me until after the deadline, so there was nothing I could do.
