Seeing the recent religious climate on the Warlight OT forums I thought I would sprinkle some light passages from the Bible & Quran. Notice that I am not making any inferences or passing any judgement whatsoever, I am simply quoting the "holy scriptures" that billions of my fellow human beings worship.

"No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord." (Deuteronomy 23:1 ESV)

"Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material." (Leviticus 19:19)

"Thou shalt not boil a kid in its mother’s milk." (Exodus 23:19)

"When men fight with one another, and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him, and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, then you shall cut off her hand." (Deuteronomy 25:11-12)

"Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered." (Matthew 21:18-22 NIV)

"If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property." (Exodus 21:20-21)

"If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver." (Deuteronomy 22:28-29)

"The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open." (Hosea 13:16)

"Believing women should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; they should not display their beauty and ornaments; they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands and male and female relatives or their husband’s slaves or male servants free of physical needs, or small children; and they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments." (Quran 24:31)

"The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides." (Quran 5:33)

"Virgins await those who enter paradise." (Quran 3:15)

The divine word of the almighty...lovely right? ;)

Why the f*** was this needed? How f***ed up were folk back then that they needed to be promised hell to not boil children alive? Wow, we really have come a long way.

I think it meant kid as in goat.

Let's not forget about the time God killed literally drowned every living being on Earth except except two of each beast.

God allows abortion for whores:
---
Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Speak to the Israelites and say to them: “If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure – or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure – then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.

‘“The priest shall bring her and make her stand before the Lord. Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. After the priest has made the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, ‘If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband’– here the priest is to put the woman under this curse – ‘may the Lord cause you to become a curse among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.’

‘“Then the woman is to say, ‘Amen. So be it.’

‘“The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water. He shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering will enter her. The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the Lord and bring it to the altar. The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to make the woman drink the water. If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: when she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse. If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.

‘“This, then, is the law of jealousy when a woman goes astray and makes herself impure while married to her husband, or when feelings of jealousy come over a man because he suspects his wife. The priest is to make her stand before the Lord and is to apply this entire law to her. The husband will be innocent of any wrongdoing, but the woman will bear the consequences of her sin.”’

---
Numbers 5

Or as punishment to the woman, abortion is ok.

---
Give them, Lord –
what will you give them?
Give them wombs that miscarry
and breasts that are dry.

‘Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal,
I hated them there.
Because of their sinful deeds,
I will drive them out of my house.
I will no longer love them;
all their leaders are rebellious.

Ephraim is blighted,
their root is withered,
they yield no fruit.
Even if they bear children,
I will slay their cherished offspring.’

---
Hosea 9

Or as punishment to the father:

---
But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the Lord, the son born to you will die.’

After Nathan had gone home, the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife had borne to David, and he became ill. David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground. The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them.

On the seventh day the child died. David’s attendants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, ‘While the child was still living, he wouldn’t listen to us when we spoke to him. How can we now tell him the child is dead? He may do something desperate.’

Working on Sundays is a big no-no.

While the Israelites were in the wilderness, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day. Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly, and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him. Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp.’ So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Numbers 15

And making fun of baldness.

From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. ‘Get out of here, baldy!’ they said. ‘Get out of here, baldy!’ He turned round, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. And he went on to Mount Carmel and from there returned to Samaria.

2 Kings 2 (and it's written exactly as gung-ho as it seems)

doesn't that have a massive ban on eating animal meat, and special preparation for food due to their belief that every living thing has a soul or something?

I'd have to give up my cultural heritage of being Japanese for that. I'll pass, but aside from that it looks like a pretty good religion, and the text as far as I can tell fails to contradict itself, which is step in the right direction. I would say its beliefs don't align with me, so it would still be contradictory, so I'll stay away, but it looks like a legitimately functional religion.

shows u how islam and christians are equally absurd

the question is why do christains dont take it as srsly compared to muslims?

u do have some who take it srsly but very few who go as far to take violent action

scientology has no need for violent action they sue and sue and spread propaganda without the need for violence

westboro baptist church picket funerals but thats about it

what prevents them from doing violence

why did the planned parenthood shooter do violence? he cited a bunch of biblical verses for his actions

strange phenomena indeed

there is a different reason why ppl are radicalized

i wonder why

Reincarnation is believed in Jainism, but Jainism has 5 vows in priority, which pretty much explain the faith.

1. To be nonviolent against all living beings, for no harm.
2. To always speak the truth (note: I said in priority. What I mean by that is, if speaking the truth will bring about more bloodshed, then it's better to lie).
3. No stealing.
4. Not much sex (don't like this - stay out of my sex life).
5. Non-attachment, to things and folk (I'm ok with things, but folk, no. I'm not a sociopath).

It's funny, the main monk in Jainism is always naked - he doesn't care about social relations, and he's not attached to clothes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Acharya_Gyansagar.jpg (ok photograph)

Jainism is also the main faith where the swatstika is the dominant symbol.

I'd have to give up my cultural heritage of being Japanese for that

If you think believing in Buddhism and Shinto is not needed to keep cultural heritage, then believing Jainism shouldn't be a problem, either.

yeah, that minorly disagrees with me, but it works. I would flip 1 and 2, as I view the truth as the most valuable thing in the world, but that's probably another point where we differ ideologically, and I don't think either of us will be able to resolve that issue.
