Since few people play the RT ladder, I was wondering if it could not be better to lower the level prerequisite to join this ladder? Btw why was it imposed in the first place?

To make it more difficult for people to just create new accounts and go straight on the ladder? Which seeming as you are high enough level I assume that's what you want to do ;)

I would prefer the ladder to be more popular among top ladder players, then hopefully more people rated 2000/2100+ would play. Since ladder polls have already been done and it hasn't changed it much (mod played a couple of games but I could never get a matchup ): ) I don't think it will change on that end.

I think the rating system is the problem. It is not fun, when it hurts to play a very lower rated player. (and ther is no reward.)

Despite agreeing with everything here, I still think the RT rating is a bad one. Just not the worst :p

The rating system has one issue: sometimes you win a game against a low-ranked player and you still lose rating points. That should be corrected: even if your rating doesn't go up after an easy win, it should certainly not go down.

It's a minor thing though, and except this, the RT Ladder rating system is really good.

I don't think few people play the RT ladder, at least not recently. A couple of days ago, I saw 15 people active at once, which is the highest I've ever seen it, so I think the amount of players playing the ladder is currently increasing.

Problem is not rating system, nor level prerequisite but the templates. If Fizzer on keeps keeping templates rated around 2.6/5 in polls on RT Ladder (LD and commanders ones), it will continue to scare people away.

As long as that shitty commander-template stays, i'm not going to rejoin the rt-ladder anytime soon.

personally I feel the RT ladder should duplicate the 1v1 ladder.

I support the random maps, but I feel we should have a rt chaos ladder with random maps, and a rt trueskill ladder with the 1v1 strategic.. and I also feel we should have 1v1 ladder md trueskill and 1v1 ladder md chaos.


I don't understand why we created a rt ladder to give players a ladder system for active players that doesn't follow the same template(s) as the md ladder.

TrueSkill is not the reason for lowering the rating, the fact that you get matched with players that have a very different rating (mean) is the problem. BayesElo would also penalise you for this, except it isn't that obvious (1) the other ladders have a matchmaking algorithm and (2) in the cases it is visible, it's because of expiring games, which makes it more difficult to notice the change in the opposite direction (like going up after a won game against a weak opponent expires).

Frankly, I don't undestand why level prerequisite for RT ladder is lower than for 1v1 one, because playing RT one is way trickier.
Consider this: At level 43 stage, you will have close to nothing experience with given templates, unless you are part of clan already. Whic means, when you try it, you will get probably template you never saw before and you will be probably paired with someone who is experienced on it. Moreover, you have very short time to examine completely strange map and to try to make some reasonable picks. Th result is easily predictable - you will be demolished. Give it new try, another map, probably another skilled player, and guess what will happen...
Unless you are wildly competitive, you will probably give it up soon - and wait for ability to enter 1v1 ladder, played on familiar map with familiar settings. I wonder how many people will return to RT ladder later, but as its use is low (simply compare amount of active players in 1v1 and RT ladder), answer is obvious - not so many.
Yeah I have seen comment from top players - "so just play and learn" - this is obvioulsy true, but who would enjoy to be cut into pieces many times in a row? And how many RT specialists really play RT ladder? I see only familiar names from other ladders and competitions there, while when playing Auto 1v1 RT games, I ran into very skilled people many times - they would be great contributors to RT ladder (and strategic community in general) unless they would not be disgusted by its system in the first place.

I guess you see my point - RT ladder is way harder than other ones. Therefore, making it accessible at such low level does not make many sense to me and is IMO one of the main reasons why it is sparsely played.

1v1 ladder - 359 ranked ladder teams out of 2645 registered.
RT ladder - 68 ranked out of 3687.
I am aware of game frequency conditions for being ranked in RT ladder, but this disproportion is noteworthy at least.
