We tried this awhile back but everyone was so dam picky and wouldn't agree and so it kinda died. This time I'll make a thread or something. Anyone interested in just reading some great books? No politics, no fighting, just some fellows having a good time.

1984 - Orwell
Germinal - Émile Zola
Le Dernier Jour d’un Condamné (The Last Day of a Condemned Man) - Victor Hugo

Any of these is a great reading.

Im looking for books where the story take place at the year 900-1250 (The Medieval Warm Period)
Adventure books that follow the lives of successful kings, or a person related. Like the founders of Kiev Rus for example.
It may be fiction too.

Please tell me if you know a good book that fits that description.

Bonjour Tristesse - Francoise Sagan

I read it French for practice, it royally sucked. Written very poetically, as if everything had to have a meaning, very flowery and bad writing, and the plot, that's the worst bit of it all, with a terrible, anticlimactic ending. Awful book, in my eyes.

Each to their own, Xy. Those may be bad points to you, but I think she has a remarkable gift. ;)

Shogun - James Clavell
The first Britains to traverse the seas of Japan using rutters stolen from the Portuguese are caught in a storm and washed up in Izu (a southern peninsula).
A fascinating insight into the life and times of the Japanese as well as a gripping yarn, spun with expert skill.

@Orange, Ivanhoe fits that timeframe if you haven't already read it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Saxon_Stories
Saxon Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell, historical fiction series following the life of Alfred the Great (king who developed the concept of England and led to its unification) and his successors as they fight the Danish invasion. Protagonist is a Danish-raised Pagan warlord who fights for Alfred despite their religious differences. Fair warning, the book does not paint Christianity in the most favorable of lights.

Author also as an Arthurian trilogy, Civil War series, Hundred Years War series and a long series (24 books) following Duke of Wellington's military career (through the eyes of one Richard Sharpe). All as historically accurate as practical.
