Don't seem to be getting very far on this one. I beat it no problem before the update, but now there's generals on the battlefield my ally keeps getting killed once the opposition takes over Russia.

My strategy last time involved pumping reinforcements into scandinavia while I took over the continent with the airdrops, but that doesn't work because the AI ally won't move his general out of Russia.

I've tried airdropping my ally a 120 troop block, but it won't hide it's general in it and usually sends the blob to scandinavia while leaving the general in place.

I've tried doing it without the ally period, which actually almost worked, but I didn't have enough momentum to make it across europe.

Any suggestions?

In my experience, the level is FAR easier now than it used to be. (Which I actually consider a major problem - you don't really get to play out the scenario as intended.)

The "old" version was beaten in 15 turns (as the record); the new one has been finished in 7 turns (!!!), and I completed it in 8 on my first try.

That shows that it's quite possible to simply send in a large army, find the enemy commander, and assassinate him. :)

The level is actually pretty easy.
Just push forward south/easwards. You will come across a stack of 100+ in Corsica, but at that point you have one airlift. Airlift and then attack with last order the stack (Type in the attack-window 200 armies to make sure you will attack with all leftovers). A few turns later you will meet the enemy commander in South Italy. Throw everything against with 1st order and you have won.

Won in 8 turns that way.

Edit: That might sound heartless, but dont bother helping your ally, its not worth it. Hunt the enemy commander as said above.

It's now a simple seek and destroy mission. Hitler is hiding around southern Italy or Sicily. Take your stack there asap, ignore the rest

That definitely helps alot. I wasn't actually checking for hitler, I assmed he was hiding on the eastern front for most of the game.

I know the stack in corsica you mean, but I never had any trouble with them.

You should always review your history after a failed attempt. The AI always start in the same place (outside manual distro) and the commanders often follow the same pattern
