My friend recently dubbed something he called National Libertarians- in other words, the key tenets of libertarians with some nationalism mixed in.

And I seemed to agree with this new idea.

However, another friend said it was oxymoronic. Your thoughts?

If it is just nationalism, it's fine. If it is nationalized in terms of government control of stuff, it's oxymoronic

What was your friends explanation for why it's an oxymoron?

He said

"Libertarians want the government to not be involved in their lives. If nationalism unites, wouldn't it be contradictory?"

Nationalism is just a kind of supremacism. It's often very much upheld by government, but it doesn't have to be.

Nationalism has nothing to do with economics.

I don't think it's an oxymon. Libertarian-socialism is more of an oxymoron but only semantically. It used to only be known as "libertarianism" but then libertarianism got rebranded (esp. in the U.S.) to mean something very different.
