Of course they're destroying the European economy. If they wanted to help their member states they wouldn't have forced Greece to stay in the Union instead of leaving, improving its economy, and re-joining. They wouldn't be forcing the UK to leave as soon as possible to shake up their economy more. They know a non-EU country can have a thriving economy and make trade deals with other countries, so they want the UK to have as much trouble with this as possible.
Why?
Because they want to stay in power, nothing else. The EU even acknowledges that it's a dying trade bloc. They don't care about Europe. They care about their authority to dictate decisions in foreign countries.
