Annoyed with people spamming your favorite forum threads with useless information? You already have the option to hide an entire thread from view.

This user script gives you some more flexibility. It hides posts/images from all players on your blacklist across the forums.

Prerequisites

Install the following based on your browser

Tampermonkey in Chrome
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo?hl=en

Greasemonkey in Firefox
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

How do I get it?

You can install the script present here.

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/21017-trolls-be-gone

Other

- If Fizzer publishes a major update to the forums, this may break.
- If you have a new entry on your blacklist, just refresh the page :)
- This script has only been tested on the later versions of Google Chrome. I'll test it on Firefox later.

Any way to temporarily "un-hide" the player's post? Like in a game, you get the "this player is blacklisted" thing with a "show" option to show the message.

Realistically, I end up unblacklisting everyone because I just read their messages anyway (I'm too curiouos ._.) but I feel like this would be a very good way to not have the mail threads broken by Ox and Tbest's huge pics

But yes, Zeph is right, needs a show option /: How else can I make fun of stupid trolls?

@Fan: because that's what lets you run the script. Tampermonkey is a browser extension (similar to Greasemonkey in Chrome) that runs scripts like this so you don't have to make full browser extensions to accomplish even less trivial tasks. Pretty convenient.

Posting from un-blacklisted alt so OP can see it: one feature I'd really appreciate (if it's not too time-consuming to add) would be the ability to enable the user-script only in specific sub-forums. I'd like to ignore trolls when they spam in General, Clans, Help, etc., but have less filtering in Off-Topic and the Map/Programming forums since trolls on other forums tend to sometimes generate worthwhile content there.

Maybe have a UI element (a checkbox?) that lets you pick the forums you activate the userscript in from your Dashboard and then fiddle with line 23 to only pick forum posts from the desired subforums? In case there's a major stumbling block, let me know and I'll see if I can add the feature myself (haven't made a userscript before so I'm suggesting it here first since I expect you to have better insight on how to actually implement this).

Thanks.

@Seph: yep. :P I've noticed that I tend to make typos more often at 4 am for some reason.

I did this at work. Seeing negative coworkers every day upset my qi. So I moved to another office and took less traveled routes at less common times to avoid being corrupted by their negativity and mental imbalances. Too bad I couldn't somehow mute their voices and block their faces from my vision.

hmm, i like the concept but i don't think the implementation is the best, i still have to scroll past the persons comment placeholder, i would rather have the comment minimized to a bar just saying "username xxx probably talking crap again" and have it clickable to expand and still see if it i wish to.

Interesting idea but I'm not sure about the point behind it. If it was the spam you were worried about, then the spam continues to be there. Plus, the lack of ability to view a hidden message could actually end up being a hinderance.

I think it's a very good base idea, but to make it as good as it can be, these 2 ideas mostly perfect it.

This is kinda stupid. It's understandable if someone is just a troll who only griefs, but if you just blacklist everybody you hate you're denying yourself the value of what someone might be saying. I mean, it's literally creating a safe space. You can make a thread, and anybody you hate would be blacklisted and they'd comment on it and you could essentially just put your hands on your ears and "lalala" through them even if they said something supportive, critical or just trolling.

I don't mean to go off-topic, but I find it rather offensive how many people just blacklist you for forum things, as if your forum persona has anything to do with the real game....

I think time spent on this could be spent on say, finding ways to improve mail threads.

I blacklist people when they act like idiots in a game I'm playing or leave in the first 5 minutes. I don't blacklist for any other reason unless they're a special sort of irritating.
