Happy Independence Day America :). America has made mistakes, oh have we made mistakes. Constantly we have gotten it wrong. To quote Churchill " We can always count on Americans to do the right thing, after they have exhausted every other option ". There are no excuses for Indian Removal, Guantanamo, and who can forget the shit show we, along with Europe, have caused in ME. But mistakes shouldn't be allowed to define us, they should be the most effective tool in guiding us.
So today, this one time, let's let our mistakes guide us. America's power is undeniable, but her honor is not. The very thing that America once stood for, freedom, justice, and prosperity were under threat from the beginning . Even the founders had there own reasons and hidden agendas constantly guiding there actions. Hamilton was blind by his dream of a National bank, Jay with his obsession with peace in Britain, and even Washington had his own personal interests. But the difference once, the primary interest they had and what they broke the constitution for revolved around the prosperity of the people themselves as well as themselves. Politics has always been corrupted, but more so now. Men were corrupted to do illegal and questionable things because of ideology, as well money.
But even though she has had corrupted leaders , for any number of reasons , since her creation, the spirit of America lives on to this day. Say what you will, you won't find any place quite like America. The most diverse nation on the planet, she had attracted people from all over the world because of the opportunities found here. Most of the civilised world has more Democratic reforms then the entire medieval world combined, yet they still come. Americans are arrogant little sons of bitches and always will be but it's caused by pride. Pride produced by immigrants from every corner of the earth, gathered together to be granted a freedom sought after and nurtured since ancient Greece.
So today, this one time, let's celebrate and ponder the good America has done. But let's also remember the evil, because it's just as important if not more. I would like everyone to name some evil and some good she has done. Let's try to paint a picture of America that is truthfully accurate.
" Evil and Good will always exist together in the same place. Because without one, you can't recognize the other. "
