HOW IT WORKS:
I have been thinking about new ways to play Warlight and I had an idea of sort of an Arena game. I have started making a map for this type of game, and it consists of 18 territories that would be "Player Slots", and 4 territories that would be "Arenas". At the start of the game, each player is given 1 player slot, leaving the arena slots open. Each player slot would have 4 connections, one with each of the Arenas. For this gamemode to work, people would challenge other players in public chat to a battle. The battles would generally be 1v1's and would take place on the Arena territory. Since every player is connected to all 4 arenas, the 2 players taking place in the battle would choose one of the 4 arenas, and they both attack that territory. Public chat would need to be used to make sure multiple battles don't happen in one arena. Since there are 4 arenas, 2 players battling in each one, only 8 of the 18 players would participate in a battle each round. Now you might ask, why wouldn't you just sit out every round so you do not lose troops? The answer to that is, every arena would have a bonus of a certain amount of troops, so that the winner of each battle would gain more troops to use in his next battle. Every "Round" would be made up of 2 turns in game. The first turn, players would attack the arena territory. The second turn, the winner would move all of his troops, plus the troops he gets from the arena bonus, back to his territory, leaving 0 troops behind. This second turn eliminates the problem of new battles taking place in the arena before the winner of the previous battle can get his troops out. As you will read in the next section, players would not have to attack with all of their troops, in order to save some for later battles, or in order to not be eliminated. This game mode would need to use an honor code, so players would not attack other territories from the arena, since the arena is connected to all of the player slots.

ELIMINATION:
Now this gamemode could go on forever, so the host will decide when a player is eliminated (when the player must surrender from the game). Various ways of elimination are possible, such as losing a certain amount of battles, losing all troops, taking x amount of turns without battling, etc. The honor code comes back in with eliminations, as the players would need to be honest and surrender if they met the elimination rule of the game.


I personally have put a lot of thought into this idea, and would like some input from the community. I also would like some input about how much the arena bonuses should be, as the player who has the bonus would have the bonus for two turns, until the next battle takes place and that player would lose the bonus. Any input on this game mode would be VERY much appreciated.

only issue is your putting trust in other people. People r going to mess it up... Maybe if theres a way to make it private. Maybe by just making it a tournament with those settings...

A game style needing a unique map...which relies on players being honest and keeping their word?
We're talking about CBerkleys idea here, not diplomacy's
What does anyone lose by trying it? Maybe it'll be awful, and maybe it'll be great fun! I'll try it.

I don't need help making the map lol, and the whole reason I put this on the forums was for input, I wasn't asking for people like you to come in and bash on it. If you don't like the idea, then that's your opinion, maybe give me some tips to make the idea better, but coming here just to bash on my idea isn't necassary but I guess people like you are to be expected when posting on the forums, so thank you very much for wasting probably 5 minute of your life in this forum thread, and wasting about 10 minutes of mine reading and typing this :-)))))

Thank you for your input, it would probably be more based for like a clan game, not as much open completely to the public for that trust reason. But if you play enough diplo, you can find players who are trustworthy, there are lots of them, and you could invite them to games as well. That seems to be the major concern is the trust part, but I'm sure if you find the right people, it would be a fun game!

i didn't mean to hate on it. I'm telling u the truth. people screw things up. I'm interested though. seems interested especially among active players. Kind of reminds me of a bigger clash royale battle for some reason. Ill test though xD

Well first of all, if you would have read the whole first post, the host would have rules such as if you lose a battle you are eliminated, or if you in out of armies, etc. and yes I know players might not be honest, but if that's your argument, read m post I said a few minutes ago. Secondly, the game would be played with fog so no one knows who is in the arenas so no one knows who lost or won battles. And rules could also be added that you cannot battle the same person twice in a row or something.

The whole idea is pretty much luck in the first round, and yes I did say that, because the loser of the first round would lose all troops, meaning they would be eliminated. Again, this is why I put this on the forum, so people can give input as to how I may improve this idea.

Never intended for this to be a competitive game lol, and it's an arena so pretty much once you lose, you are out, the player slots will have a small bonus so that players who lose will still have a chance, and again, there will also be a rule that forces people to play so they may not stack troops. Also, the host could add a rule that gives a loser of a game freedom from battling for X number of rounds. The game can be given any rules the host desires. It is very customizable.

this was probably better (haven't read them)

I like your idea but I think this has one flaw.
If the arenas only consist of one territory the fight will be short and not very tactical.
The players can choose the amount of units to send into battle, and this will have an effect on the outcome, but I think more important is the moveorder.
This should be randomized as it would be pointless otherwise. But randomized moveorder would pretty much make a close to a lotto game.

ah... never mind... To avoid favor defence you can adjust the killrates...
But you should keep that in mind ^^

more:
- If there are no 4 battles each 2 turns the owner of the territory would get even more income. One would have to use a gamemaster to avoid that. Or you accept this and say that this guy is the current champion. If anyone else wants to challenge him he can. If nobody has the guts to do this the champion will get the income.
- If you create a new map for this, maybe add some more territories for the players. With so few territories you are very limited. More can give you more opportunities. Eg. if you want to enable cards. You would only be able to gain cards by winning if there are no other areas to fight in. More territories could also allow teaming up via a gift of units.
You might not want to play like this, but some players might. I think the effort to add some more territories should not be that big, but it will have an impact on the number of possibilities to play the map.

First of all, I like your idea for the champion/challenger aspect, I may add that. Second, the only way I can think of to fix the arena system with multiple territories, would be to make all of the territories in the arena connected to the player slots so that the player can remove all of his troops from the arena in 1 turn. Players would have to be trusted during the game not to use these connections during a battle to attack their opponent with troops from their base. I may have an idea to fix all of this. So lets say we have an 18 player game, the map could have, lets say, 9 arenas. In each heat only 3 of the arenas would be used, meaning 6 players play in that heat. This leaves 3 heats of 6 players battling, meaning every 3 heats, everyone would have battled, and all 9 arenas would be used, and this could be called a Round. Connections to all of the territories in the arena would not be necessary, because players would have enough time to move their troops back to their bases, even from the other side of the arena, before the next heat came to that arena (Read Example).

EXAMPLE:
*For the example, X=2 turns later and X is the set turn number the host sets for battles to end*
-[Turn 1]: 3 players challenge 3 other players in public chat, making the 6 players for round 1. Each set of 2 players chooses 1 of the 3 arenas for Round 1. Each player makes their attack for that heat on the "starting territory" in their assigned arena.
-[Turn 2]: Now that all players are in place to start their battles, on this turn, players advance in the arenas towards their opponents.
-[Turn 3-X]: Players battle until they take over all of the territories in the arena. Host may add a rule that all battles must end by a set turn number, and a winner is determined by who has the highest number of territories in the arena by that turn. On this turn as well, 6 new players repeat Turn 1 and take their starting spots in the next 3 arenas.
-[Turn 6]: All competitors in the first 3 arenas remove their troops from the arenas, leaving 1 or no troops behind (depending on if host sets game to "One Army Stands Guard"). Meanwhile, competitors in the second heat of 3 arenas begin their advancements toward their opponents.
-[Turn 7-X]: Same as Turn 3-X, players battle until they take all territories in the arena or the turn limit is reached. Meanwhile the last 6 players take their starting spots in the last 3 arenas.
-[Turn 10]: All competitors in the second 3 arenas remove their troops from each arena. Last heat players start making advancements toward their opponents.

The next round would not start until the last heat is finished, so that all players are eligible for battles in heat 1 on the next round.

Also, the bonuses in each arena would be set so that each territory in the arena has a bonus, so that if a player wins a battle by total elimination of his enemy, he would get the full arena, and if the battle must be ended by the set turn number, each player would get the bonus from the territories they control, meaning both players would get bonuses for fighting hard, but the winner would receive a higher bonus because he controls more territory.

Another problem that could be brought from this, is that the players who fight in the first heat would have their bonuses for a longer amount of time waiting for the players in Heat 3 to finish. This is true, but if you remember, the players in Heat 1 had the least amount of troops when they started their battles, and the rest of the players got to build their armies waiting until they battled. Now, arena bonuses would need to be set at a perfect number to completely balance this out, but that could be the hosts decision, and when I publish the first map, I will make sure to do some math to find the most balanced game.

Another part of this gamemode is that players could create their own maps, with however many player slots they would like, number of arenas, number of territories in the arenas, etc.

Perhaps make each arena like a mini-map? I remember an idea like this that never got published from somewhere. It was a gigantic Colosseum. Fizzer rejected the idea because the territory connections were not clear enough.
