I would like to suggest a kinda of clan ranking system. It's very simple and design and it will rank the clans on people's opinions, similar to how teams in college sports are ranked.

All it requires is people ranking the top 10 clans in order in their opinion. After that, please message me your rankings and it will be added to the total. First place clan gets 10 points, 2nd gets 9, all the way down to 10th place clan gets one point. Once 15+ people rank the clans, we should have an accurate ranking system.

I would like the rankings to happen once a month and I will give people 3 days to message me. There will be a limit of 3 members of each clan, and if there is more, I will take the first three member's votes. I will post the rankings of each person, along with the total votes all together.

I will also add my thinking on why I voted the way I did after each month's rankings come out. Feel free to politely disagree with me on them and tell why you think I am wrong.

Please vote for any official clan or any that are not official but are well known to be a clan such as [WM] and Apex.

As of now, I'd like to open up this month's clan rankings. Please message me on this account if you would like to vote.

Democracy is stupid. you will end up with most votes for the most liked/famous clans.. or for the clan with most members if they care to vote.

Unfortunately it will be just as meaningless as the real life college football polls. In existing polls you have huge biases based on geography and tradition. If you want to see a warlight example of this, look at the rankings of teams in the nations cup. All the polish teams were vastly underranked because, I assume, (1) language barrier, (2) lack of head-to-head experience with the players among the voters. West USA and Poland 2 were close to each other in rank, but West USA got beat by Poland 2 by a sizable margin. Meanwhile, who were the top ranked teams? The ones with the highest profile, most well known players. A.k.a. those with the greatest "tradition." Look at the 1v1 ladder top 10. If it were put to a vote, how many of those players would remain in the poll's top 10? What about Group A of Chokecherry's Promotion/Relegation league?

To the argument that a ranking based on opinion is better than nothing, I would much prefer to establish rankings based on quantitative metrics, and if none exist, hold my judgement until they become available.

I also think that there's already enough clan-related drama on the forums already. This exercise would only fan the flames.

Of course, mine is only one opinion. Feel free to disagree. :)

this way blitz will not get any votes because we are not as famous as many other clan, and i think thats unfair.. i think that if clans should be rated we should get a chance to fight for it :)

The vote is only about popularity. Only 3 members from each clan can vote. It is fair.

so a vote of a complete noob or troll will matter as much as a player who played for the last few years? and - why should a vote of a veteran count, when he most likely did not play any of the new clans anyway? and will the judgement be solely made on a few games the person made against/with players from the clans we are trying to cover? good luck with your ranking... i'm outta here..

Meh, assuming you guys aren't being facetious, lawm's rankings have problems too, as they're effectively the sum of points over all members. So the results aren't normalized. If you take the total points among the, say, top 10 members of each clan, that might be a better indication. But are points really an indicator of skill? Or merely recent activity? I don't think points are even an appropriate ranking mechanism.

I was just making this for a little fun thing to do, but you guys are right, it isn't gonna work well at all. In a world of people who tried their best to accurately rank the clans and not game the system, it'd work. But a lot of people on warlight are not those kind of people.

i say that if you are affiliated with a clan you should not be able to vote (so it is impartial)

Yet on the other hand clan members will be the people who are most knowledgable about the clans themselves

Better instead of deciding who is number 1-10 it might be better to rank "clans" in "tiers"

Top 3 (God tier) and then going down rank 1 - rank 2 etc.

Assuming a big enough sample, the subtle biases should cancel each other out. However; because JSA is targeting (indirectly) people who read the forums, their biases may point the same way (towards clans who are prominent on the forum) and thus may not cancel out.

The problem with taking votes, though, is that no one knows how well any clan does as a whole. A person basing {101st}'s ranking on Lynx players will likely rank {101st} higher than a person basing {101st}'s ranking on non-Lynx players. There's also a natural bias towards people who play more. More people will factor Awesomeguy (7000 games played) into VIW's ranking than Pushover (1000 games played) due to the fact that less people have played games with Pushover. Combined, these two factors favor clans with good players that play a lot.

That and "gaming" a system is purposeful while biases are unpurposeful. Illuminati gamed the clan system by purposefully gaining over 100 members. The clan system is biased towards VIW/REGL/101st because they have more high-leveled people.

I don't understand at all the point of whole thread and why we need to rank clan in this way.

jay why do you have to be so competitive? Have you ever thought about what weaker clans may think? being forced ranked into your clan ranking system and publicly humiliated?

we all know which clans are the best, and which clans are okay okay, and whiich clans aree sh1t. no need announcments. :)

Brain, I know what it's like to be in a weaker clan. I was in [P], and we were the second weakest clan when we were first formed. If you are a less skilled clan, you can either try to get better, or just not give a crap and do your own thing which many have done.
