Idk if it was fake, but it's definetly weird as fuck. I read an article about the amateurism of the plotists, I'm not sure if they knew what they were doing. I think that it's definetly possible that Erdogan knew about the coup attempt beforehands, and let it happen in order to use it politically.

The only thing that makes me doubt that the hole coup was fake, is that Erdogan did definetly piss off a lot of Turkey's military, which it's very laicist tradition, and he's very autoritarian, so I could see them raising arms against him. Other than that, I really doubt that this many generals, coronels, officers and soldiers would all agree to make a fake coup against the regime, and the president jailed everyone, so they wouldn't have much to gain with this fake coup.

Anyways, the big winner here is the president, he jailed thousands of judges and soldiers that were opposed to him (with lots not even being directly implied in this hole mess), and the occidental world is applauding him as the defender of democracy.

I wish he gets killed JFK style.

@teamguns, nobody thinks laicist tradition is behind the coup. even though the plotists presented themselves as kemalists (follower of atatürk, when you say laicist I think they came to mind immediately. you can check their manifesto and their name comes from him too), gülen organization is thought to be behind the coup. and they are kind of a religious group too. also, even though they look like amateurs, they successfully got the most important generals of the country. they were probably had to try this earlier than they planned.
